10 missing, 5 injured after USS John S. McCain collides with tanker in Pacific

Something is seriously wrong with current Navy surface training.

Either the command staff (CO, XO, COB – Chief of The Boat) are failing to properly train their subordinate officers and these ill trained Lieutenants literally can’t conn a ship.
Or, the actual intellectual quality of the majority of junior officers is below average and since the best, brightest and smartest ones are assigned to carrier or submarine duty, the rest -those left at the bottom of the barrel- get handed off to the rest of the fleet and the tender mercies of the unforgiving sea .
Or, military discipline is handled so ineptly that junior control officers are, in effect, committing a form of “soft mutiny” in rebellion against what they perceive as toxic leadership and are purposely putting the ship into danger, simply to get the commanders relieved from sea duty.

Ten sailors are missing and five injured after the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain collided with a tanker east of Singapore and the Strait of Malacca, the U.S. Navy said late Sunday.

Authorities said four of those injured were medically evacuated by a Singapore navy helicopter. They suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Search and rescue efforts were launched in coordination with local authorities, the Navy said. Initial reports indicated the warship sustained damage to its port side aft, the left rear of the ship.
