{"id":100347,"date":"2024-02-26T18:45:07","date_gmt":"2024-02-27T00:45:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=100347"},"modified":"2024-02-26T18:45:07","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T00:45:07","slug":"100347","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=100347","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guns.com\/news\/2024\/02\/26\/black-hills-picks-up-30-million-navy-marine-corps-ammo-contract\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BLACK HILLS PICKS UP $30 MILLION NAVY\/MARINE CORPS AMMO CONTRACT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>South Dakota-based Black Hills last week beat out five other ammunition makers to deliver\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guns.com\/ammo\/9mm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">9mm ammo<\/a>\u00a0to the Navy and Marine Corps.<\/p>\n<p>The $30,885,083 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery\/indefinite-quantity contract covers the procurement, manufacturing, testing, inspection, and packaging of 9mm barrier blind cartridges to the Navy and Marine Corps. These will be for use in the services&#8217; front-line 9mm pistols including the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guns.com\/search?keyword=Beretta%20M9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beretta M9<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guns.com\/search?keyword=SIG%20Sauer%20M17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SIG Sauer M17<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guns.com\/search?keyword=SIG%20Sauer%20M18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M18<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The rounds were chosen for &#8220;combat purposes to provide enhanced terminal effects,&#8221; as described by the contracting agency, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division, in Norco, California. NSWC Corona first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.highergov.com\/contract-opportunity\/9mm-barrier-blind-cartridge-n6426723r0023a-o-43f93\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">listed\u00a0<\/a>the contract opportunity last June and had six competitive bids submitted.<\/p>\n<p>Although it is not disclosed what loads were submitted for testing, Black Hills introduced its Honey Badger Line of self-defense ammo in 2015, which used a monolithic copper solid projectile to consistently penetrate barriers. In its 100-grain +P version, the Black Hills Honeybadger 9mm archives 1,250 FPS velocity out of a 4.4-inch test barrel and generates 347 foot-pounds\u00a0of energy. The company also makes a 125-grain Subsonic Honeybadger.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.guns.com\/prod\/2024\/02\/26\/65dc37ec26f4c2b4754943ff25ef49bf9618b3d9f0498.jpg\" alt=\"The Black Hills 125-grain 9mm Subsonic Honeybadger\" \/><figcaption>The Black Hills 125-grain 9mm Subsonic Honeybadger. (Graphic: Black Hills)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Compare this to the standard\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guns.com\/news\/2019\/11\/12\/ammo-review-winchester-m1152-active-duty-9mm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M1152\u00a0<\/a>load developed by Winchester which was selected in 2016 as the ammunition supplier for the U.S. Army Modular Handgun System program. Using a 115-grain flat nose full metal jacketed bullet, the 9x19mm Luger round has a distinctive shape. With a brass case and military primer, it has an advertised velocity of 1,320 FPS at the muzzle which translates to 445 foot-pounds of energy.
