{"id":100568,"date":"2024-03-17T00:01:58","date_gmt":"2024-03-17T06:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=100568"},"modified":"2024-03-08T13:39:09","modified_gmt":"2024-03-08T19:39:09","slug":"100568","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=100568","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/michaeltsnyder.substack.com\/p\/the-amazing-true-story-of-the-real\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Amazing True Story Of The Real St. Patrick<\/a><\/p>\n<p>St. Patrick really existed, and the ripple effects of what he accomplished during his lifetime are still being felt today.\u00a0 Sadly, very few people know the true story of this remarkable man.\u00a0 If you have a few moments, please let me share that story with you.\u00a0 Once you understand what really happened, you will never view St. Patrick\u2019s Day the same way again.\u00a0 Today, most people regard St. Patrick\u2019s Day as an excuse to wear green and get drunk.\u00a0 According to Wikipedia, St. Patrick\u2019s Day is celebrated in more nations\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day\" rel=\"\">\u201cthan any other national festival\u201d<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Saint Patrick\u2019s Day is a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Public_holiday\" rel=\"\">public holiday<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Republic_of_Ireland\" rel=\"\">Republic of Ireland<\/a>,<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-13\" rel=\"\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Northern_Ireland\" rel=\"\">Northern Ireland<\/a>,<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-14\" rel=\"\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0the Canadian province of\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Newfoundland_and_Labrador\" rel=\"\">Newfoundland and Labrador<\/a>\u00a0(for provincial government employees), and the British Overseas Territory of\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Montserrat\" rel=\"\">Montserrat<\/a>. It is also widely celebrated in the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Kingdom\" rel=\"\">United Kingdom<\/a>,<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-15\" rel=\"\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canada\" rel=\"\">Canada<\/a>,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brazil\" rel=\"\">Brazil<\/a>,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\" rel=\"\">United States<\/a>,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Argentina\" rel=\"\">Argentina<\/a>,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Australia\" rel=\"\">Australia<\/a>,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Africa\" rel=\"\">South Africa<\/a>,<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-16\" rel=\"\"><sup>[16]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Zealand\" rel=\"\">New Zealand<\/a>, especially amongst\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Irish_diaspora\" rel=\"\">Irish diaspora<\/a>. Saint Patrick\u2019s Day is celebrated in more countries than any other\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Day\" rel=\"\">national festival<\/a>.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-FOOTNOTECroninAdair2002242-17\" rel=\"\"><sup>[17]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0Modern celebrations have been greatly influenced by those of the Irish diaspora, particularly those that developed in North America. However, there has been criticism of Saint Patrick\u2019s Day celebrations for having become too commercialised and for fostering negative stereotypes of the Irish people.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-18\" rel=\"\"><sup>[18]<\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So was there an actual historical figure that inspired this holiday?<br \/>\nYes, but the truth is that the real St. Patrick wasn\u2019t even Irish.<\/p>\n<p>Maewyn Succat was born in Britain some time around AD 387 to Christian parents.<br \/>\nBut he did not embrace the faith of his parents during his youth.<br \/>\nIn fact, he considered himself to be\u00a0\u201cidle and callow\u201d when he was a boy.<\/p>\n<p>A turning point came when he was taken captive by Irish raiders\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/st-patricks-day\/who-was-saint-patrick\" rel=\"\">at the age of 16<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>At the age of 16, Patrick was taken prisoner by a group of Irish raiders who were attacking his family\u2019s estate. They transported him to Ireland where he spent six years in captivity. (There is some dispute over where this captivity took place. Although many believe he was taken to live in Mount Slemish in County Antrim, it is more likely that he was held in County Mayo near Killala.)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>During this time, he worked as a shepherd, outdoors and away from people. Lonely and afraid, he turned to his religion for solace, becoming a devout Christian. (It is also believed that Patrick first began to dream of converting the Irish people to Christianity during his captivity.)<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He was finally able to escape after six years in Ireland, and he was reunited with his family.<\/p>\n<p>But some time later he was instructed in a dream to return to Ireland\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/st-patricks-day\/who-was-saint-patrick\" rel=\"\">as a missionary<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>After more than six years as a prisoner, Patrick escaped. According to his writing, a voice\u2014which he believed to be God\u2019s\u2014spoke to him in a dream, telling him it was time to leave Ireland.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>To do so, Patrick walked from County Mayo, where it is believed he was held, to the Irish coast. After escaping to Britain, Patrick reported that he experienced a second revelation\u2014an angel in a dream tells him to return to Ireland as a missionary.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Patrick\u2019s return to Ireland was spectacularly successful.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Vast numbers of people gave their lives to Christ, and he founded\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/answersingenesis.org\/holidays\/who-was-st-patrick\/?gad_source=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiA6KWvBhAREiwAFPZM7gzecAJdM07G8THrfwG3cla3QJeXdfmlFpA1TKhfl8jnk3521j0K3RoCsmoQAvD_BwE\" rel=\"\">hundreds of churches<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>St. Patrick was tremendously effective and saw many pagans turn to put their faith in Christ. Despite how his extant writings testify to how much he missed his homeland, he chose to live and serve among the Irish he grew to love. He even suffered imprisonment and persecution at the hands of the Druids. But his dedicated and tireless evangelistic efforts, according to tradition, resulted in his baptizing 120,000 new believers and building over 300 churches in Ireland. He served and worked among the people for 30 years before he died on March 17, 461, and was buried in Ireland.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Patrick\u2019s preaching was accompanied by extraordinary miracles.<\/p>\n<p>According\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sign.org\/articles\/resurrection-miracles-performed-by-st-patrick-apostle-of-ireland-228971\" rel=\"\">to one source<\/a>, Patrick actually raised 33 people from the dead during his ministry\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cFor the blind and the lame, the deaf and the dumb, the palsied, the lunatic, the leprous, the epileptic, all who labored under any disease, did he in the Name of the Holy Trinity restore unto the power of their limbs and unto entire health; and in these good deeds was he daily practiced. Thirty and three dead men, some of whom had been many years buried, did this great reviver raise from the dead, as above we have more fully recorded.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>The above is quoted from The Life and Acts of St. Patrick, translated from the original Latin of Jocelin, Cistercian monk of Furnes of the 12th century, by Edmund L. Swift, Esq., Dublin, 1908.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Patrick started a fire which literally continued for hundreds of years.<\/p>\n<p>The churches that he established sent out missionaries that took the gospel\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/freshexpressions.com\/2017\/03\/16\/learning-from-saint-patrick\" rel=\"\">throughout Europe and all over the known world<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>The churches and monasteries that he was responsible for establishing became some of the most influential missionary centers in all of Europe. Missionaries went out from Ireland to spread the gospel throughout the world. It was the Irish monasteries that helped preserve the Christian faith during the dark ages.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Patrick was the most influential figure in the history of Celtic Christianity, but as I stated earlier, he was not Irish.<\/p>\n<p>He was born in Britain, and it turns out that his ancestors actually came to Britain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oneforisrael.org\/bible-teachings\/messianic-perspective-bible-teachings\/was-st-patrick-a-messianic-jew\/\" rel=\"\">from the land of Israel<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>So now, back to the question: was he really Jewish?\u00a0It\u2019s a funny thing that two apparently Anglo heroes of old have origins in the Promised Land! Patron saint of England, St George, came from Lod near Tel Aviv (where Ben Gurion Airport is today) with a Greek father and Palestinian mother, although George probably wasn\u2019t Jewish. Early writings, however, suggest that St Patrick was. Moreover, that he was from the tribe of Judah:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cOf the sons of Israel Patrick was verily. But when the children of Israel were scattered by Titus and Vesapian in bondage throughout the four quarters of the world, in revenge for Christ\u2019s blood, then did Patrick\u2019s stock come to Brittany\u00a0because St Patrick\u2019s stock is of the sons of Israel.\u201d\u00a0<sup>1<\/sup><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At the time that Patrick was born, there was a large number of people of Jewish descent living in Britain, and many of them\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oneforisrael.org\/bible-teachings\/messianic-perspective-bible-teachings\/was-st-patrick-a-messianic-jew\/\" rel=\"\">\u201cbelieved in Jesus as Messiah\u201d<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Many Jewish people fled the land of Israel as Roman oppression stepped up, and were effectively forced from the country in 135 AD after a Jewish revolt. Jewish communities developed in the surrounding nations, including Jewish families who believed in Jesus as Messiah while maintaining Jewish customs and lifestyle. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Patrick\u00a0was from an aristocratic background, and many names of the nobility in Brittany at that time were Jewish.\u00a0As the Roman Empire waned in the fourth century, a family known as the Merovingian Dynasty, revered for being related to Jesus, became more visible. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>They still kept many Jewish traditions such as laws related to ritual purity,\u00a0keeping the Sabbath, and celebrating\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oneforisrael.org\/holidays\/why-are-passover-and-easter-celebrated-at-different-times\/\" rel=\"\">Passover rather than Easter<\/a>.<sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0There are numerous ridiculous legends surrounding this bloodline, but suffice to say, they had come to live in the area of Brittany and early records indicate he was part of this family.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cWhen Miliuc [Patrick\u2019s slave master] saw that he was a faithful man, he bought him from the other three, that he might serve him alone. And\u00a0Patrick served after the custom of the Hebrews\u201c.<sup>3<\/sup><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cAfter our Lord had died on the cross for the sins of the human race, the Roman army, avenging His Passion, laid waste Judea, and\u00a0Jews taken captive were dispersed\u00a0among all the nations of the earth. Some of them settled among the Amoric Britons, and it is stated that\u00a0it was from them that St Patrick traced his origin.\u201d\u00a0<sup>4<\/sup><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Today, we would refer to Patrick as a \u201cMessianic Christian\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Even though he is now considered to be a saint by the Catholic Church, the Lutheran Church, the Church of Ireland and the Eastern Orthodox Church, Patrick did not believe what they believe.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, in Patrick\u2019s original writings he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vineyardjc.com\/irelands-patrick-saint-yes-catholic-no\/\" rel=\"\">\u201cnever mentions either Rome or the pope\u201d<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cHe (Patrick) never mentions either Rome or the pope or hints that he was in any way connected with the ecclesiastical capital of Italy. He recognizes no other authority but that of the word of God. \u2026When Palladius arrived in the country, it was not to be expected that he would receive a very hearty welcome from the Irish apostle. If he was sent by [pope] Celestine to the native Christians to be their primate or archbishop, no wonder that stout-hearted Patrick refused to bow his neck to any such yoke of bondage.\u201d (Dr. Killen, Ecclesiastical History of Ireland, vol.1, pp.12-15)<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>During Patrick\u2019s time and in the centuries that followed, the Celtic Church did things\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vineyardjc.com\/irelands-patrick-saint-yes-catholic-no\/\" rel=\"\">very differently<\/a>\u00a0than the Catholic Church did\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Unlike the Roman Catholic Church, the Celtic church did not believe in purgatory. They did not pray to Mary and did not honor the Pope. Their clergy married and reared children. They baptized believers, not infants, by immersion. And\u2026 are you ready for this? They celebrated Passover. They did not celebrate Rome\u2019s Easter, and they kept God\u2019s 7th day Sabbath.
