\u2018You got a win. Take the win\u2019: Joe Biden tells Netanyahu<\/a><\/p>\n

Joe Biden reportedly warned Benjamin Netanyahu\u00a0that the US<\/a>\u00a0will not participate in any\u00a0Israeli counter-attacks against Iran<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The US president and his senior advisers are highly concerned that an Israeli response to Iran\u2019s attack would lead to a regional war with catastrophic consequences, US officials told Axios.<\/p>\n

On Saturday evening, Iran launched its first-ever direct attack on Israel,\u00a0involving more than<\/a>\u00a0300 drones and missiles. The attack came in retaliation to an airstrike in Syria on April 1 that killed seven of Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps \u2013 Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility.<\/p>\n

Mr Biden said the US and Israel had shot down \u201cnearly all\u201d of the drones and missiles launched by Tehran overnight, aided also by Britain, France and Jordan. Israel said 99 per cent were intercepted without hitting their targets and that \u201cvery little damage\u201d had been caused.<\/p>\n

American forces intercepted 70 drones and at least three ballistic missiles, according to CNN, while Mr Biden also said that US support for Israel was \u201cironclad\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou got a win. Take the win,\u201d Mr Biden reportedly told Mr Netanyahu, adding that the US will not participate in any offensive operations. Mr Netanyahu reportedly said that he understands the US\u2019s position.<\/p>\n

Iran has said the attacks \u201cachieved all its objectives\u201d and that it is not planning any further operations. It warned Israel against taking any \u201creckless\u201d actions, and said it would not hesitate to retaliate with a \u201cmuch stronger response\u201d.<\/p>\n

However, Israel has said the \u201ccampaign is not over yet\u201d.<\/p>\n

Lloyd Austin, the US secretary of defence, has asked that Israel notify the US ahead of any response against Iran.<\/p>\n

World leaders have condemned Iran\u2019s attack, with regional powers Saudi Arabia and Egypt calling for restraint. Leaders from the G7 will hold a video conference later on Sunday to discuss the Iranian strikes and coordinate a united diplomatic response.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
