{"id":101871,"date":"2024-05-14T00:17:52","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T05:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=101871"},"modified":"2024-05-14T00:17:52","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T05:17:52","slug":"101871","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=101871","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2024\/05\/barr-for-nra-president-would-prove-association-has-learned-nothing\/#axzz8ZwRXi900\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barr for NRA President Would Prove Association Has Learned Nothing<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cInsiders Reveal the Rot Within the NRA,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2024\/05\/insiders-reveal-the-rot-within-the-nra\/#axzz8ZYUkxQiO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"c14b7ada2e9b20f6ada67157b28cc8c1\">John Crump reported Wednesday<\/a>. \u201c<em>AmmoLand News\u00a0<\/em>has been speaking to several insiders on the condition of anonymity at the National Rifle Association (NRA) and NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) about the state of the historic gun rights organization since former Executive Vice President Wayner LaPierre and the NRA was found liable in a civil corruption case out of New York State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Revelations show the Herculean task facing the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2024\/05\/all-four-reform-candidates-win-seats-on-nra-board\/#axzz8ZYUkxQiO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"498e999fac23b88d39b2a60f94e6cd55\">four recently elected \u201creform candidates\u201d<\/a>\u00a0to bring about real changes in the way the association operates. That assumes they can recruit support from other Board members, and exert sufficient influence on senior management and staff to rein in excesses\/reverse the corrupt practices instilled in decades of the Wayne LaPierre administration.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-17\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1671218810065-0\">It\u2019s been known for some time that powerhouse NRA Counsel William Brewer has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/donor-lookup\/results?name=william+brewer&amp;order=desc&amp;sort=D&amp;state=TX&amp;zip=75201\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"fad541905ef86c0e01905a3ce1b675b3\">long-donated to gun-grabbers<\/a>, and while separating itself from his disastrous representation will be necessary for the association\u2019s future credibility with no-compromise gun owners, one revelation in Crump\u2019s report seems more immediately pressing and correctable:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201c<em>AmmoLand News<\/em>\u00a0has also been told that former Congressman Bob Barr will be the next President of the NRA. Mr. Barr is currently on the Board of Directors and is the only one that\u00a0<em>AmmoLand News<\/em>\u00a0knows of who has had a negligent discharge of a firearm. According to our sources at the NRA, Mr. Barr is a Brewer loyalist.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That was anticipated when then-<em>candidate <\/em>Jeff Knox told <em>AmmoLand<\/em>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2023\/04\/once-more-into-the-breach-trying-to-save-the-nra\/#axzz8ZYUkxQiO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">readers:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cThen in a surprise move, the board elected Bob Barr to replace Willes Lee as First Vice President. Without the Bylaw change, Lee would have been expected to be elected President at that meeting.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/waronguns.com\/the-finest-gun-grabber-nra-could-elect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"9475ac809278f895c518be78810c43b7\">My reaction<\/a>\u00a0to reading that: \u201cWho better than a Lautenberg Amendment fanboy?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a lifetime ban on possessing firearms for anyone convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence. And that could plunge people into \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunowners.org\/nws9806-htm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"932e25ca61843df9904d829a0385a723\">horrors stories<\/a>\u201d over \u201coffenses\u201d including \u201ca wife tear[ing] her husband\u2019s pocket during an argument [or] a daughter throw[ing] keys at her mom \u2013 and miss[ing]\u201d \u2014 or simply pleading down to the misdemeanor charge to avoid expensive prosecution and the threat of more severe incarceration penalties.<\/p>\n<p>From\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunowners.org\/nws9704-htm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"80a302e977a26a192fc3d76cf7d5b9f6\">Gun Owners of America<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>In early March, Rep. Bob Barr endorsed the concept of the Lautenberg gun ban, calling it \u201cimportant and worthwhile legislation.\u201d Barr\u2019s comments appeared as an editorial in the March 6, 1997 issue of\u00a0<em>USA Today<\/em>, where he called for only a limited repeal of the Lautenberg ban. While he opposed the retroactive part of the ban, Rep. Barr endorsed the underlying principle behind the Lautenberg gun ban, stating that, \u201cThis is important and worthwhile legislation, and we cannot allow its effectiveness to be reduced.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Read the entire GOA article because there\u2019s plenty more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And then listen to Barr\u2019s own words when he was running for president as the Libertarian Party candidate and see if you heard any repudiation or apology:<\/strong><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bob Barr Addresses Lautenberg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Lq2yqrgPMD8\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><br \/>\nTelling the audience how he improved a bad bill hardly addressed his assertion that Lautenberg \u201cis strong protection for women and children,\u201d or his claim that his amending language kept it from being \u201cdeclared unconstitutional.\u201d He then goes on to support the concept of \u201cprohibited persons.\u201d So, the answer is, no, he wouldn\u2019t repudiate his past support and spearhead the effort to repeal it.
