\u2018Martyred\u2019: Iranian Media Declare Raisi Dead; \u2018No Sign\u2019 of Life at Helicopter Crash Site<\/a><\/p>\n

Search teams have reportedly located the site where a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, crashed on Sunday, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the state\u2019s news agency.<\/span><\/p>\n

There was \u201cno sign\u2019 of life, according to Iranian state television (<\/span>via<\/span><\/a>\u00a0the Times of Israel).<\/span><\/p>\n

State-run media also declared that Raisi had died \u2014 or, rather, that he had been \u201cmartyred.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Times of Israel\u00a0<\/span>quoted<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Iran\u2019s Mehr news agency:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi, had an accident while serving and performing his duty for the people of Iran and was martyred,\u201d Iran\u2019s Mehr agency says as other media outlets also reported the news.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Iranian Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian and other officials were also reported to have been on board when the helicopter went\u00a0<\/span>missing<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in a mountainous area of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

The weather conditions were reported to have <\/span>consisted<\/span><\/a> of fog, rain, and cold weather.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Times of Israel\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0that the Iranian Fars news agency had revealed that while the helicopter carrying the Iranian president had crashed, two other helicopters in the convoy, carrying other officials had arrived safely at their destination.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Pir-Hossein Kolivand, head of Iran\u2019s Red Crescent Society, announced that teams had arrived at the location of the helicopter crash, adding that \u201cthe condition is not good,\u201d according to the IRNA\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>statement<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kolivand added that \u201c73 rescue teams are present in the search area of the helicopter in the Tawal village with advanced and specialized equipment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

People in Iran were asked to pray for president Raisi after the news of the helicopter crash.<\/span><\/p>\n

Opposition groups were said to be celebrating, setting off fireworks and posting jokes on social media.<\/span><\/p>\n

If Raisi is confirmed dead, it could set off a succession battle in Iran that has the potential to destabilize the regime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Update:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0The Iranian government\u00a0<\/span>reportedly<\/span><\/a>\u00a0confirmed the death of Raisi saying all nine crew and passengers aboard the helicopter had been killed.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
