Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, on at least five occasions as governor of Minnesota, hosted a Muslim cleric who celebrated\u00a0Hamas<\/a>\u2018s Oct. 7 attack last year on\u00a0Israel<\/a>\u00a0and promoted a film popular among Neo-Nazis that glorifies Adolf Hitler, the\u00a0Washington Examiner<\/em>\u00a0found.<\/p>\n The imam, Asad Zaman of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota,\u00a0joined<\/a>\u00a0other Muslim leaders in May 2023 for a meeting about mosque security with Walz\u2019s gubernatorial office in Minnesota. Zaman also\u00a0spoke<\/a>\u00a0at a May 2020 event to call for peaceful protests with the governor during the riots in Minnesota sparked after George Floyd\u2019s death. In April 2019, the cleric delivered an\u00a0invocation<\/a>\u00a0before Walz\u2019s state address \u2014 just months after Zaman\u00a0called<\/a>\u00a0for an end to a government shutdown at a press conference with Walz in January 2019.<\/p>\n Zaman, moreover, attended a May 2019 event that Walz hosted for Ramadan, social media posts show.<\/p>\n Walz\u2019s ties to Zaman could serve as problematic baggage for the Minnesota governor as he campaigns with Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee. News of the ties also comes after a\u00a0Washington Free Beacon<\/em>\u00a0report<\/a>\u00a0this week found Walz spoke at a 2019 event with an antisemitic scholar who has defended terrorism against Israel.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Zaman, who is from Bangladesh,\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0on Oct. 7 of last year that he \u201cstands in solidarity with Palestinians against Israeli attacks.\u201d That day, which saw 1,200 Israelis murdered by Hamas terrorists, he also\u00a0shared<\/a>\u00a0an image of a Palestinian flag on Facebook in response to a post by Yusuf Abdi Abdulle, director of the Islamic Association of North America, declaring that \u201cPalestine has the right to defend itself.\u201d The Biden-Harris administration, Abdulle wrote in the post, was \u201con the wrong side of history\u201d in \u201csupporting the extremist Zionist regime and its illegal settlements.\u201d<\/p>\n Zaman, meanwhile, has used his Facebook page over the years\u00a0to share<\/a>\u00a0official Hamas press releases,\u00a0blog posts<\/a>\u00a0on antisemitic\u00a0websites<\/a>\u00a0slamming<\/a>\u00a0Jews, and, in one 2015 instance, a link to a piece on a\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0for a pro-Hitler film called\u00a0The Greatest Story Never Told<\/em>. The propaganda\u00a0movie<\/a>\u00a0was released in 2013 and is a favorite among antisemites and QAnon conspiracy influencers,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0the<\/a>\u00a0Anti-Defamation League.<\/p>\n \u201cImam Zaman has a troubling history of playing into classic anti-Jewish themes and justifying violence against Israel,\u201d an Anti-Defamation League spokesperson told the\u00a0Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cHe also has justified violence against Israel, including from terror groups,\u201d the ADL spokesperson said. \u201cGiven his hurtful remarks post-Oct. 7, and absent any recognition of the pain he has caused the Jewish community, we urge all public officials and leaders to avoid meeting with him in the future. Those who have met with Imam Zaman should clarify that they don\u2019t agree with his toxic views about Jews and the Jewish state.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n On Oct. 8 of last year, in\u00a0response<\/a>\u00a0to Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) condemning the Oct. 7 attack, Zaman asked the congresswoman if she would be willing to \u201creaffirm the right of Palestinians to defend themselves.\u201d The Muslim American Society of Minnesota said in a\u00a0statement<\/a> on Oct. 7 that it \u201creaffirms its unwavering support for the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Israeli occupation.\u201d<\/p>\n In recent years, Zaman has also appeared to equate Hamas committing terrorism to Israel defending itself. State records reviewed by the\u00a0Washington Examiner<\/em>\u00a0show Walz\u2019s administration has awarded over $100,000 in funding to MAS Minnesota.<\/p>\n \u201cIf Palestinians are punished for electing Hamas, why is Israel not punished for electing this genocidal maniac as its leader?\u201d Zaman\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0in May 2021. He was replying to former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who stated, \u201cI\u2019ve killed lots of Arabs in my life \u2014 and there\u2019s no problem with that,\u201d in the\u00a0context<\/a>\u00a0of catching terrorists.<\/p>\n Upon Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chairman Ken Martin posting on social media last year that he was \u201cbeyond heartbroken\u201d to learn Israelis he knew were \u201cbrutally killed or kidnapped\u201d on Oct. 7, Zaman\u00a0replied<\/a>\u00a0that Martin\u2019s group \u201ccannot be joined at the hip to apartheid Israel and still hope to court the Muslim vote.\u201d<\/p>\n To Sam Westrop, a terrorism researcher and analyst at the Middle East Forum think tank, Walz\u2019s ties to Zaman shows anti-Israel extremists may be given a platform in a potential Harris-Walz administration. Harris leads former President Donald Trump by 0.5%, according to a\u00a0RealClearPolitics<\/em>\u00a0polling average.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is astounding that with all the available public reporting and information about the iniquities of Imam Asad Zaman and MAS Minnesota that Gov. Walz has repeatedly given public platforms and taxpayer money to this extremist,\u201d Westrop told the\u00a0Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cAcross the country, Islamists hungry for government support will surely welcome Walz as vice president.\u201d<\/p>\n The Muslim American Society was once\u00a0described<\/a>\u00a0by federal prosecutors as being \u201cfounded as the overt arm of the\u00a0Muslim Brotherhood<\/a>\u00a0in the United States,\u201d court records show. The MAS, which the United Arab Emirates designated as a terrorist group in 2014, came under fire in 2019 after a video surfaced online of children at an event held by its Philadelphia chapter calling for the murder of Jews.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will chop off their heads, and we will liberate the sorrowful and exalted Al-Aqsa Mosque,\u201d two young girls said at the event,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to the\u00a0Times of Israel<\/em>.<\/p>\n Walz\u2019s office and Minnesota\u2019s Muslim American Society did not reply to requests for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Either they’ve been bought and paid for, or they’re closet moslems.
