Kennedy Jr.\u2019s announcement Friday that he was 1) suspending his campaign (at least in battleground states) and 2) throwing his support behind Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The acrid scent of panic might have been expected among the limp-wristed, totalitarian faithful. And, in fact,\u00a0 beneath the amusing cologne of anti-Trump bluster, the panic was indeed discernible.<\/p>\n<p>But there was also that trademark smooth-as-a-suppository (as Saul Bellow put it) suaveness, exemplified, for instance, by former Obama strategist David Axelrod.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobert F. Kennedy Sr.,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/davidaxelrod\/status\/1827067581078945882\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/x.com\/davidaxelrod\/status\/1827067581078945882&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1y7PtUsDZ7KlGCp9OmFWC-\">Axelrod posted<\/a>\u00a0shortly after the deed was done, \u201cwould have been appalled to see his son cut a deal to drop out for [t]he race and endorse Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Imagine: someone agrees to drop out of a race at the last minute and support a rival candidate!\u00a0 As the commentator\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nedryun\/status\/1827297205620752786\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/x.com\/nedryun\/status\/1827297205620752786&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2XNw1FI01acGnYT74RQOnW\">Ned Ryan put it<\/a>\u00a0in response to Axelrod\u2019s snippy post: \u201cYou suddenly seem offended by someone cutting a deal to drop out of the race and endorse someone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cast your mind back, David, to July 21 of this year.\u00a0 That\u2019s when Joe Biden, having been made\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=D6me2-OurCw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v%3DD6me2-OurCw&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1LCEyLnIbDkjxoxaINGTJ_\">an offer he couldn\u2019t refuse<\/a>\u00a0by the secret committee running the country, suddenly announced that he was dropping out of the race. This was, remember, after Biden repeatedly insisted that he was staying in the race and was looking forward to the next debate against Trump. Yes, the first was a disaster, but he would show \u2019em!<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s missive, posted to his personal\u2014not his official POTUS\u2014account, bore all the earmarks of haste not to say coercion.\u00a0 Had someone actually dictated the text to him? We don\u2019t know. But it was widely remarked that he neglected to endorse Kamala Harris. That\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thespectator.com\/politics\/joe-biden-ushers-uncertainty-stepping-aside\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/thespectator.com\/politics\/joe-biden-ushers-uncertainty-stepping-aside\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1XhNcRnfc-9pPev1MBqJ26\">came a few moments later<\/a>\u00a0in a separate post.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div data-word-count=\"1011\" data-p-count=\"17\">\n<p>It is easy to forget what prodigious feats of political nimbleness were required to carry out this most delicate operation.\u00a0 First, the media and the party bosses had to stop mid-track and start marching in the opposite direction.\u00a0 On the morning of July 21, Joe Biden was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sabback\/status\/1807088052843561202\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/x.com\/sabback\/status\/1807088052843561202&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1frLl6N5axI_unYE0NTcqv\">sharp as a tack<\/a>.\u201d By sundown, he was sadly diminished but also a brave hero for putting country before self and nobly bowing out of the race.\u00a0 The whole maneuver displayed an Olympics-level nimbleness.<\/p>\n<p>So has the subsequent coronation of Kamala Harris. On the day before Biden\u2019s defenestration, she was widely acknowledged to be a disliked, incompetent, airhead. The day after, she was hailed as the reincarnation of Winston Churchill.<\/p>\n<p>As I have several times\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2024\/08\/04\/kamala-harris-and-the-masque-of-magical-thinking\/?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=act_eng\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2024\/08\/04\/kamala-harris-and-the-masque-of-magical-thinking\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2gvB5-O2MQJTcQb5a9vg-B\">noted<\/a>\u00a0since the magic bus of Kamala\u2019s supreme makeover got underway, the nimbleness of her canonization, though impressive, was the brittle project of magical thinking.\u00a0 It was like a hot-air balloon: eye-catching on ascent, intractable in flight, and dangerous when the air cooled and the plummet began.<\/p>\n<p>As I and others observed, the ecstasy surrounding Kamala Harris on the run-up to the Democratic Convention was but a \u201csugar high,\u201d a temporary state of intoxication that would be as short-lived as it was numbing.<\/p>\n<p>The convention wasn\u2019t over before strains of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SgXSomPE_FY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v%3DSgXSomPE_FY&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw32_8vm128owyEwlYAtzCYd\">the thrill is gone<\/a>\u201d could be heard beginning to echo in the chambers of the punditocracy.<\/p>\n<p>By Thursday, the day that Kamala was to speak, it was beginning to be clear that her image as a great statesman-in-waiting was the closest thing to\u00a0<i>creatio ex nihilo<\/i>\u00a0since the events recounted in the opening chapters of\u00a0<i>Genesis.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>This was something that Kennedy underscored in the course of his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/im1776.com\/2024\/08\/24\/rfk-address-to-the-nation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/im1776.com\/2024\/08\/24\/rfk-address-to-the-nation\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2A4KeArwsjbrnvSLniJWse\">remarkable address Friday afternoon<\/a>\u00a0before\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/rfk-jr-joins-trump-onstage-arizona-rally-hours-endorsing-rcna167948\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/rfk-jr-joins-trump-onstage-arizona-rally-hours-endorsing-rcna167948&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2_-GKVxb6ywDRdjTkM8syi\">joining Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0at his rally in Arizona that evening. \u201c[T]he DNC and its media organs engineered a surge of popularity for Vice President Harris based on nothing,\u201d Kennedy said. \u201cNo policies, no interviews, no debates, only smoke and mirrors and balloons in a highly-produced circus.\u201d Various Dems mentioned Trump 147 times from the stage on just the first day of their convention, while Republicans mentioned Joe Biden but twice over the course of their entire four-day event.. But \u201cWho needs a policy,\u201d Kennedy asked with calculated bile, \u201cwhen you have Trump to hate?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bingo.\u00a0 I understand that Kennedy has espoused certain ideas\u2014about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/retropolis\/wp\/2018\/05\/26\/who-killed-bobby-kennedy-his-son-rfk-jr-doesnt-believe-it-was-sirhan-sirhan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/retropolis\/wp\/2018\/05\/26\/who-killed-bobby-kennedy-his-son-rfk-jr-doesnt-believe-it-was-sirhan-sirhan\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2aUNUpXjMVrafU4Zecz9-s\">who actually killed his father<\/a>, for example, or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.historynewsnetwork.org\/article\/robert-f-kennedy-jr-claims-2004-election-was-stole\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.historynewsnetwork.org\/article\/robert-f-kennedy-jr-claims-2004-election-was-stole&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2rs-VIOUvjyt1G1U8K5q5C\">the legitimacy of the 2004 presidential election<\/a>\u2014that many will take issue with.\u00a0 But his penetrating grasp of what has happened to the Democrat party, and therefore to the tradition of democracy itself, is as bracing as it is accurate. \u201cIn the name of saving democracy,\u201d he notes,\u00a0 \u201ca Democratic Party set itself to dismantle it.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote data-word-count=\"155\" data-p-count=\"1\"><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Lacking confidence that its candidate could win a fair election at the voting booth, the DNC waged continual legal warfare against both President Trump and myself. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Each time that our volunteers turned in those towering boxes of the signatures needed to get on the ballot the DNC dragged us into court, state after state, attempting to erase their work, and to subvert the will of the voters who had signed those petitions. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>It deployed DNC-aligned judges to throw me and other candidates off the ballot and to throw President Trump in jail. It ran a sham primary that was rigged to prevent any serious challenge to President Biden. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Then, when a predictably awful debate performance precipitated a palace coup against President Biden, the same shadowy DNC operatives appointed his successor, also without an election. They installed a candidate who was so unpopular with voters that she dropped out in 2020 without winning a single delegate.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Everything Kennedy says in that searing assessment is true.\u00a0 He is also right that the media, once thought to hold power to account, have become creatures of the ruling consensus, \u201cstenographers for the organs of power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy noted that he and Trump were not in agreement on every issue. But, he said, they were at one about several important policies, including \u201cending the Forever Wars, ending the childhood disease epidemics, securing the border, protecting freedom of speech, unraveling the corporate capture of our regulatory agencies, and getting the U.S. intelligence agencies out of the business of propagandizing, censoring, and surveilling Americans, as well as interfering in our elections.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s a good bit to be getting on with.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-word-count=\"186\" data-p-count=\"3\">\n<p>Kennedy\u2019s indictment of his former party, along with his endorsement of Donald Trump, has sent shock waves through the chambers of the self-appointed elite who would rule us. The timing of Kennedy\u2019s announcement\u2014he spoke mere hours after Kamala\u2019s acceptance speech\u2014could not have been more deadly.\u00a0 For one thing, he monopolized the headlines, just when the Dems were planning to luxuriate in their moment of triumph.\u00a0 For another, his endorsement of Trump was almost instantly reflected in the polls.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Fabrizio, Trump\u2019s chief pollster,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.nucleusfiles.com\/79\/79d4d957-e40c-4eac-bffb-6b694448d09f\/8-23-24-tfp-rfk-exit-memo-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/cdn.nucleusfiles.com\/79\/79d4d957-e40c-4eac-bffb-6b694448d09f\/8-23-24-tfp-rfk-exit-memo-final.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1724614858054000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3IwivCzGjIFO1757sWxLxc\">noted<\/a>\u00a0later on Friday that in every battleground state, Kennedy\u2019s endorsement shifted votes to Trump. For example, \u201cthe net vote gained in a state like Arizona based on just a 2020 turnout model would be over 41,000 votes, nearly 4 times Biden\u2019s winning margin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As I have said repeatedly these last few months, I expect Donald Trump to win on November 5.
