FBI Alerted to Suspected Apalachee High School Shooter over a Year Ago<\/a><\/p>\n

The FBI was made aware of the suspected Apalachee High School shooter in 2023 during the course of investigating the source of online threats.<\/p>\n

FOX 10 Phoenix\u00a0reported<\/a> that \u201cThe FBI, in a joint statement with the Jackson County Sheriff\u2019s Office, revealed Gray was on law enforcement\u2019s radar more than a year before Wednesday\u2019s school shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n

And the\u00a0Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/em>\u00a0noted<\/a>, \u201cIn May 2023, the FBI\u2019s National Threat Operations Center received several anonymous tips about online threats to commit a school shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tips led to then-13-year-old Colt Gray, who was interviewed by law enforcement and who denied making the threats.<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n

Gray\u2019s father was interviewed as well, and \u201cthe father stated he had hunting guns in the house, but the subject did not have unsupervised access to them.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n

Gray was monitored after being interviewed, but \u201cthere was no probable cause for arrest or to take any additional law enforcement action on the local, state or federal levels,\u201d according to the FBI.<\/p>\n

On September 4, 2024, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that 14-year-old Colt Gray was under arrest,\u00a0charged<\/a>\u00a0in the murder of two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School.<\/p>\n
