{"id":105503,"date":"2024-11-11T18:42:50","date_gmt":"2024-11-12T00:42:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=105503"},"modified":"2024-11-11T18:42:50","modified_gmt":"2024-11-12T00:42:50","slug":"105503","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=105503","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/11\/opinion\/fema-outrage-heralds-trumps-coming-government-reforms\/\">FEMA outrage reveals weaponized government \u2014 and points Trump toward reform.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s first orders of business must be to de-weaponize the federal government.\u00a0One episode from Florida illustrates why.<\/p>\n<p>Not long ago you might have charged me with paranoid conspiracy theorizing if\u00a0I had told you that federal disaster relief workers were deliberately keeping Trump supporters from receiving government assistance.<\/p>\n<p>But they were, and a FEMA supervisor has been fired for it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"align crowdsignal-poll-wrapper\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"is-style-buttons crowdsignal-forms-poll\">\n<div class=\"crowdsignal-forms-poll__content\">\n<p class=\"crowdsignal-forms-poll__question\"><strong>FEMA skipping Republicans&#8217; homes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<form class=\"crowdsignal-forms-poll__form\">\n<div class=\"is-button crowdsignal-forms-poll__options\">\n<div class=\"crowdsignal-forms-poll__answer is-button\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"crowdsignal-forms-poll__answer is-button\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button crowdsignal-forms-poll__block-button\">Marn\u2019i Washington allegedly told FEMA workers in Florida to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/09\/us-news\/fema-official-who-allegedly-told-workers-to-avoid-florida-homes-with-trump-signs-fired-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">skip houses with Trump signs<\/a>\u00a0out front after Hurricane Helene.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/form>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"connatix-outstream-video\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cAvoid homes advertising Trump,\u201d she wrote in a \u201cbest practices\u201d memo to employees, a copy of which was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/exclusive-fema-official-ordered-relief-workers-to-skip-houses-with-trump-signs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">obtained by Daily Wire<\/a>,\u00a0reportedly reinforcing this with a verbal order.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<div class=\"inline-module inline-module--more inline-module--more inline-module--more inline-module--more--thirds\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__content\">\n<div class=\"layout layout--thirds\">\n<div class=\"layout__grid layout__grid--gap-10\">\n<div class=\"layout__item\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner b-right-md p-right-md p-bottom-half p-bottom-none-md\">\n<div class=\"story story--i-flex story--i-flex-none-md\">\n<p>When Donald Trump raised this issue, The New York Times accused him of spreading disinformation. According to The Times, Trump \u201cfalsely accused\u201d the Biden administration of \u201cneglecting areas that had voted for Republicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Er, except that it was\u00a0<em>true<\/em>.\u00a0And The New York Times, as of this writing, had not corrected its false reporting, which itself constitutes disinformation.<\/p>\n<p>So does that mean the conspiracy theorists are right?\u00a0 Well, yes and no.<\/p>\n<p>If the \u201cconspiracy\u201d would involve a handful of big-shots in a smoke-filled room sending out orders to their minions, not really.<\/p>\n<p>That happens in government sometimes \u2014 as with the federal campaign to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/27\/us-news\/mark-zuckerberg-admits-biden-admin-pressured-facebook-to-censor-covid-content-says-it-was-wrong-to-suppress-hunter-laptop-coverage\/\">quash dissent on social media<\/a>\u00a0over COVID policy and the disputed 2020 election \u2014 but usually it doesn\u2019t work that way.<\/p>\n<p>Because it doesn\u2019t\u00a0<em>have<\/em>\u00a0to.<\/p>\n<p>When you have a federal workforce that overwhelmingly favors the Democratic Party, coupled with nonstop media (and social media) accounts of how awful Republicans are and how it\u2019s fair to do pretty much anything to stop them because they\u2019re basically Hitler, you don\u2019t need to issue orders.<\/p>\n<p>People act on their own.<\/p>\n<p>I very much doubt that any FEMA higher-up told Marn\u2019i Washington to skip over houses with Trump signs.<\/p>\n<p>She just knew that she hated President Trump and wanted to punish his supporters.\u00a0Then she took action.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats like to see themselves as vital soldiers, defending democracy \u2014 and, coincidentally, their party\u2019s power \u2014 from opponents who are not merely different, but outright evil.<\/p>\n<p>This sense of self-importance is coupled with a self-esteem-boosting snobbery: They tell themselves they deserve to be in charge because they\u2019re so much smarter and better and more moral than the\u00a0<em>hoi polloi.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And the allegedly high stakes justify even the most immoral actions because they\u2019re in service of a higher cause \u2014 stopping Hitler! (An excuse that\u2019s always available: Democrats characterize just about all of their GOP opponents as the next Hitler, going all the way back to Tom Dewey in 1948.)<\/p>\n<p>Trump has said he will fire bureaucrats who get in the way of his reforms, and plans to vastly thin the civil service in general.\u00a0This will help.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In fact, you\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/instapundit.substack.com\/p\/rethinking-the-civil-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">can make a good argument<\/a>\u00a0for eliminating the civil service altogether, in whole or in part.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Constitution, all executive power is vested in the president, and no one else.\u00a0The president is accountable to the public via democratic election.<\/p>\n<p>If federal bureaucrats, who aren\u2019t accountable to the public, aren\u2019t accountable to the president either, then the federal government isn\u2019t democratic at all.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been a convenient set-up \u2014 for Washington, DC, at any rate.<\/p>\n<p>Federal bureaucrats can pursue their own agendas, and the democratically elected president and Congress can blame the bureaucrats when they fail to deliver on election promises.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not the\u00a0<em>only<\/em>\u00a0way to run our federal government.<\/p>\n<p>Under the old \u201cspoils system\u201d that predated the establishment of a job-protected civil service, any bureaucrat could be fired by the president, and everyone understood that the president was therefore responsible for what the bureaucracy did.<\/p>\n<p>Making the system responsive to electoral turnover also ensured political diversity.\u00a0Today, the federal workforce is a deep-blue monoculture, and people like Marn\u2019i Washington fit right in.<\/p>\n<p>But a federal workforce that turned over regularly would end up with roughly equal representation for the parties, so shenanigans like hers would be much less likely. Especially if federal employees were easier to fire.<\/p>\n<p>America has a runaway budget deficit and a huge national debt.\u00a0Our bloated federal government has increasingly been prone to abusing its power in ways large and small.\u00a0(Forget FEMA \u2013 don\u2019t get me started on the Department of Justice, which was treating parents who protested at school board meetings as domestic terrorists.)<\/p>\n<p>In his second term, President Trump\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/30\/business\/trump-treasury-hopeful-vows-to-slash-spending-with-elon-musk\/\">should slash the bloat<\/a>. Some of these bureaucrats shouldn\u2019t have jobs at all, doing work that\u2019s either unnecessary to the constitutional responsibilities of government or that\u2019s outright harmful.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of them should have to worry more about being fired.<\/p>\n<p>Make government responsible.
