{"id":106065,"date":"2025-12-07T00:03:57","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T06:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=106065"},"modified":"2025-12-05T16:33:37","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T22:33:37","slug":"106065","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=106065","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eighty-four years ago today, on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, the Empire of Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor and other military installations around Oahu.<\/p>\n<p>Events leading up to the attack:<\/p>\n<p id=\"isPasted\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Several\u00a0key events\u00a0foreshadowed the attack in the early morning hours:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">6:10 a.m. \u2014 The<em> USS Condor<\/em>, a minesweeper, spots a periscope.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">6:45 a.m. \u2014 The <em>USS Ward<\/em> fires on a Japanese submarine, marking the first shot fired by American forces in World War II.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">6:53 a.m. \u2014 <em>Ward<\/em> radios Navy HQ, but decoding processes slow down its reception.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">7:02 a.m. \u2014 Radar station on Oahu spots an unidentified aircraft, but reports are ignored because a B-17 from California was expected to arrive.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Imperial Japanese Navy, launching 414 attack and fighter aircraft from the fleet carriers,<em> Hiryu, Soryu, Shokaku, Zuikaku, Akagi<\/em> and <em>Kaga<\/em>, carry out what appears to be a surprise attack on the United States Pacific Fleet, Army and Marine air and ground forces at Pearl Harbor, and elsewhere on Oahu island, Hawaii.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eighty-four years ago today, on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, the Empire of Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor and other military installations around Oahu.
