Westcott &#8211; FPC Law Challenge to Louisiana Non-Resident Carry Ban<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>LAKE CHARLES, La.\u00a0<\/strong>(December 23, 2024) \u2014 Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced Monday that it has filed a new federal lawsuit challenging Louisiana\u2019s ban on firearm carry by non-residents. The complaint in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firearmspolicy.org\/mate\"><em>Mate v. Westcott<\/em><\/a>\u00a0can be viewed at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firearmspolicy.org\/mate\">firearmspolicy.org\/mate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClosing off nonresidents\u2019 ability to obtain a carry license substantially infringes\u00a0their constitutionally protected right to carry a firearm in public for self-defense,\u201d the complaint says. \u201cThere is no well-established and representative historical tradition of restricting the ability to bear arms based on residency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeaceable people have a constitutionally protected right to carry firearms throughout the United States,\u201d said\u00a0FPC President Brandon Combs. \u201cSecond Amendment protected rights don\u2019t end at a state\u2019s border. This case is an important step towards achieving our goal of restoring the right to bear arms everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Mate v. Wescott<\/em>\u00a0case is part of FPC\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/news-and-politics\/2024\/06\/supreme-court-nra-gun-laws-bump-stocks.html\">high-impact<\/a>\u00a0strategic litigation program,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fpclaw.org\/\">FPC Law<\/a>, aimed at eliminating immoral laws and creating a world of maximal liberty.
