{"id":108307,"date":"2025-03-12T15:27:28","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T20:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=108307"},"modified":"2025-03-12T15:27:28","modified_gmt":"2025-03-12T20:27:28","slug":"108307","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=108307","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/2nd-amendment\/2025\/03\/11\/bill-allowing-armed-teachers-staff-moving-west-virginia-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bill Allowing Armed Teachers, Staff Moving in West Virginia House<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Legislation to allow armed teachers and staff for classroom defense is set to come before the West Virginia House.<\/p>\n<p>The bill, HB 2187, passed the\u00a0West Virginia House Education Committee,\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsaz.com\/2025\/03\/07\/bill-allow-concealed-carry-school-staff-heads-house-floor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">according to WSAZ<\/a>.\u00a0 It is next scheduled for the House Judiciary Committee.<\/p>\n<p>HB 2187\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wvlegislature.gov\/Bill_Text_HTML\/2025_SESSIONS\/RS\/bills\/hb2187%20sub1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">amends<\/a>\u00a0the language of current West Virginia law \u201crelating to possessing deadly weapons on premises of educational facilities; authorizing teachers, administrators, or support personnel in elementary or secondary schools to carry concealed firearms and be designated as a school protection officer (SPO).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill also sets forth \u201cinformation\u201d and \u201ccertain qualifications\u201d that must be met in order for a teacher or staff member to become an SPO.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to concealed firearms, SPOs would be able to carry \u201cstun guns or tasers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LootPress\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lootpress.com\/west-virginia-bill-seeks-to-allow-armed-teachers-in-k-12-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">pointed out<\/a> that SPO applicants must already have a concealed carry permit and will undergo additional training under the auspices of the \u201cSecurity Protection Officer Training Program.\u201d The training program includes \u201cfirearms training, de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention, active shooter response, trauma care, and other security-related topics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rand.org <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rand.org\/research\/gun-policy\/analysis\/laws-allowing-armed-staff-in-K12-schools.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">noted<\/a> that \u201cat least 28 states allow schools to arm teachers or staff (not just trained guards or peace officers) in at least some cases or as part of specific programs,\u201d as of January 1, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/27\/us\/tennessee-governor-signs-school-guns-bill\/index.html#:~:text=Tennessee%20Gov.,to%20the%20General%20Assembly's%20website.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">observed<\/a>\u00a0that on April 26, 2024, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed legislation allowing armed teachers in the Volunteer State. This puta the number of states allowing armed teachers for classroom defense up to at least 29.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee moved to arm teachers after Nashville Metropolitan Police Chief\u00a0John Drake\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/2nd-amendment\/2023\/03\/27\/police-christian-school-shooter-considered-two-locations-chose-one-least-security\/\">indicated<\/a>\u00a0the March 27, 2023, school shooter originally planned to hit another target, but chose the Christian school instead because it had less security.
