Lawmakers Pushing Commerce Secretary To Dump Biden Admin\u2019s Gun Export Restriction.<\/a><\/p>\n

A group of 88 members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate are pushing to have the Biden Administration rule\u00a0restricting firearm exports<\/a>\u00a0by law-abiding American manufacturers reversed, and they want it done now.<\/p>\n

On March 7, the lawmakers, led by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-Tennessee,\u00a0sent a letter<\/a>\u00a0to Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick requesting reversal of the policy, which was part of the Biden Administration\u2019s weaponized attack on gun owners, gun sellers and gun makers.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs soon as is practically possible, we respectfully request that you rescind the Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security\u2019s (BIS) recent interim final rule (IFR) \u2018Revision of Firearms License Requirements,\u201d the letter stated. \u201cThis misguided and destructive IFR is costing the American firearms industry nearly $500 million annually while doing nothing to advance U.S. interests or regional stability. Despite numerous attempts to rein in these actions through letters, legislation, hearings, markups and oversight, the Biden BIS ignored Congress and used the IFR to advance the Biden administration\u2019s anti-firearms agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n

The letter also referenced President Donald Trump\u2019s\u00a0recent executive order<\/a>\u00a0instructing new Attorney General Pam Bondi to review all orders, regulations, guidance, plans, international agreements and other actions of executive departments and agencies that violate the Second Amendment or furthered the Biden administration\u2019s anti-firearms agenda.<\/p>\n

\u201cSection (2)(b)(vii) of the executive order specifically requires the review and remediation of any agency action regarding the \u2018processing of applications, to make, manufacture, transfer or export firearms.\u2019 Because this IFR stops the commercial export of firearms, ammunition and related components to over 36 countries and severely limits the ability of American businesses to obtain export licenses, we believe this IFR ought to be addressed immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, Sen. Lee said now is the time to act to get this onerous restriction off the books.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor too long, federal agencies have tried to constrict our Second Amendment rights indirectly, in this case by hurting law-abiding gun manufacturers by severely limiting their ability to export firearms,\u201d Sen. Lee said in a\u00a0press release announcing the legislation<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cI look forward to the Trump administration rectifying this unjust rule pushed by Joe Biden\u2019s bureaucrats.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rep. Green, who joined Sen. Lee in heading up the effort, said he and the other lawmakers are confident that President Trump\u2019s new commerce secretary, Howard Lutnick, will put an end to the unnecessary debacle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Biden-Harris administration\u2019s interim final rule on issuance and renewal of export licenses for certain firearms, related components and ammunition has now lasted almost a year,\u201d Rep. Green said. \u201cWith the confirmation of Secretary Lutnick, I trust that this IFR will come to an end. BIS\u2019s actions cost American firearm manufacturers over $500 million annually. It\u2019s time to end this attack on the Second Amendment, and I look forward to immediate action from the Department of Commerce.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
