Cotton Reintroduce Bill to Repeal Firearm Transfer Tax<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On April 1, 2025, Representative\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hinson.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/hinson-cotton-introduce-rifle-act\" data-uri=\"8b637e987cf0ab2eb53b851a853dccf0\">Ashley Hinson<\/a>\u00a0(R-IA-02) and Senator\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cotton.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/cotton-colleagues-reintroduce-bill-to-repeal-tax-on-certain-firearm-purchases\" data-uri=\"6de47eb9c19c08b08840b2969217e8ef\">Tom Cotton<\/a>\u00a0(R-AR) reintroduced the Repealing Illegal Freedom and Liberty Excises Act, or the RIFLE Act. These bills (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/2552?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%22hinson%22%7D&amp;s=3&amp;r=2\" data-uri=\"a68fb35c89312a40d1674e8d7f02803d\">H.R. 2552<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/senate-bill\/1224?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%22cotton%22%7D&amp;s=7&amp;r=5\" data-uri=\"8a88ca7dab2011cb2c6e82c3aa9e62df\">S.1224<\/a>\u00a0respectively) would remove a $200 excise tax that is imposed on law-abiding gun owners when they purchase certain firearms and accessories that are governed by the National Firearms Act.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-17\">\n<p id=\"div-gpt-ad-1671218810065-0\"><strong>Repealing Illegal Freedom and Liberty Excises Act, or the RIFLE Act<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Since 1934, gun owners wishing to purchase items such as suppressors and short-barreled rifles have been forced to pay a $200 \u201csin tax\u201d to the federal government.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This tax is,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atf.gov\/rules-and-regulations\/laws-alcohol-tobacco-firearms-and-explosives\/national-firearms-act\" data-uri=\"c5f7c8f0fa3c6b36ad4bb8bbbbcc8456\">according to the ATF<\/a>, intended to \u201ccurtail, if not prohibit, transactions\u201d of these lawful items. But this legislation would remove that imposing financial barrier.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1681151398698-0\" data-google-query-id=\"CP2bwbDNxowDFZft9QId52Mmww\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/22702991301\/Ammoland\/AL_In-Content_1_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Speaking on this important legislation,\u00a0Representative Ashley Hinson said, \u201cThe Second Amendment is a Constitutional right that is not to be infringed. Law-abiding gun owners should not be forced to pay an unconstitutional firearm tax. This bill will remove unnecessary financial barriers on lawful gun owners from the antiquated 1934 National Firearms Act and protect the Second Amendment rights of Iowans and Americans.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cLaw-abiding Americans who exercise their Second Amendment rights\u00a0should not be subject to unnecessary taxes and restrictions preventing them from doing so. Passed into law in 1934, the National Firearms Act needs to be amended.
