Maher is willing to break bread with those who don\u2019t align with his worldview. That\u2019s it. That\u2019s enough.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n That simple approach today is novel, even revolutionary.<\/p>\n Broadway superstar Patti LuPone is\u00a0sad about the lack of civil discussion in society.<\/a>\u00a0The progressive actress told fellow Broadway star George Clooney just that in their expansive Variety chat.<\/p>\n What I don\u2019t understand about all of this in this country is that we can\u2019t seem to have dissenting views. You\u2019re labeled a communist. You\u2019re labeled a fascist.<\/p>\n In a separate takeaway from their chat, the star bemoaned the lack of \u201cdissenting views<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhat I don\u2019t understand about all of this in this country is we can\u2019t seem to have a dialogue, a diverse dialogue or a dissenting views dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n She\u2019s right. We just saw comic legend\u00a0Larry David call Maher Hitler<\/a>\u00a0for daring to disagree with him. Yet LuPone is blind to the problem on two fronts.<\/p>\n One<\/strong>: She\u2019s part of it.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In 2018, she launched a\u00a0vile attack on a huge swath of U.S. citizens.\u00a0<\/a>Their crime? Disagreeing with her worldview:<\/p>\n \u201cThe Christian right in America is no different from al-Qaida. Print that, because someone needs to say it out loud!\u201d<\/p>\n (Did they really?)<\/p>\n A year later, she suggested the neighbor who\u00a0nearly killed Sen. Rand Paul<\/a>\u00a0(R-Kentucky) in 2017\u00a0had the right idea<\/a>.\u00a0She wasn\u2019t alone with those views.<\/a><\/p>\n Plus, LuPone tried to \u201cout\u201d Sen. Linsdey Graham (R-S.C.) against his wishes. The unmarried Senator\u2019s private life is his business.<\/p>\n Forcing him to reveal his sexuality is bullying, period. And she did it because he\u2019s a Republican.<\/p>\n Two<\/strong>: Her fellow progressives helped make our lack of civil discourse possible.<\/p>\n It\u2019s no accident that a liberal like David would try to \u201ccancel\u201d Maher for having dinner with a sitting president from the \u201cwrong\u201d party. The Left powered Cancel Culture for years, punishing those who held \u201cproblematic\u201d reviews and ensuring their professional repercussions.<\/p>\n Who deemed author J.K. Rowling history\u2019s greatest monster after she questioned parts of the trans ideology in 2020? The Left \u2026 or the Right? It didn\u2019t matter that Rowling adhered to most progressive principles.<\/p>\n Closer to LuPone\u2019s home, the entertainment community embraced woke guard rails and failed to stand up for free speech and expression. Both cratered in recent years.<\/p>\n LuPone\u2019s peers also kept conservative talent out of the industry whenever possible. The conservative Hollywood Blacklist is\u00a0all too real,<\/a>\u00a0and the evidence is overwhelming.<\/p>\n It\u2019s hard to have a civil exchange \\when sharing the \u201cwrong\u201d view could crush your career.<\/p>\n LuPone could find the source of the problem in a New York Minute if she really tried.
