Inside the Anti-Gun Playbook: How Propaganda Manipulates the Public<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019d like to recommend a little light reading for your weekend, and it won\u2019t cost you a cent. It\u2019s\u00a0Preventing Gun Violence Through Effective Messaging<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>a downloadable 84-page book containing almost all the strategies and tactics employed by the gun control gang.<\/p>\n

One thing you will notice is that the Second Amendment gets very little mention, and what it does get is almost entirely about Antonin Scalia\u2019s opinion in District of Columbia v. Heller<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0McDonald v. City of Chicago<\/a><\/em>\u00a0gets a brief mention, too.<\/div>\n

This isn\u2019t surprising: Knowledgeable gun-control fans know there\u2019s nothing they can do about the Second Amendment itself. The process described in\u00a0Article V<\/a>\u00a0of the U.S. Constitution and the fact that the gun-grabbers would have to persuade 38 states to ratify a new amendment is a barrier to the hopes of all but the most optimistic gun control Pollyannas.<\/p>\n

The book came out in 2012, so there\u2019s no mention of\u00a0Bruen<\/a><\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Rahimi<\/a><\/em>. It was also when the\u00a0National Rifle Association<\/a>\u00a0was riding high and membership was peaking. As you might expect, the NRA is the principal villain in this book, sort of like the Death Star in\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0or Godzilla.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The book\u2019s emphasis on emotional appeals as propaganda displays a quite unflattering cynicism. They\u2019re shedding crocodile tears while standing on the bodies of the slain, demanding laws that wouldn\u2019t have saved them.<\/p>\n

The books authors emphasize avoidance of \u201c(t)he political food fight in Washington or wonky statistics.\u201d That\u2019s almost humorous, considering how \u201cwonky\u201d the statistics used by Everytown and Giffords really are.<\/p>\n

Gun control is all about using weaponized language and well-cooked statistics to create bogeymen and alarm the public. It depends on inventing terms like \u201cassault weapon\u201d and \u201cgun violence\u201d and using public ignorance and a very cooperative mainstream media to peddle them.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Sources like the\u00a0Gun Violence Archive<\/a>\u00a0inflate the number of mass shootings: So far in 2025, the GVA claims there have been 124 mass shootings in the U.S. while the\u00a0Violence Prevention Project<\/a>, which has a far more exhaustively researched database, reports no mass shootings since September last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But which number, 124 or zero, is more likely to be on the evening news?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s just like the exaggerations in the\u00a0K-12 School Shooting Database<\/a>\u00a0I mentioned in a previous\u00a0article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In his classic\u00a01984<\/a><\/em>, George Orwell wrote:\u00a0\u201cAnd if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed\u2014if all records told the same tale\u2014then the lie passed into history and became truth.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s called the Big Lie. Adolf Hitler also wrote about it in\u00a0Mein Kampf<\/em>. The idea is if you\u2019re going to lie, make it a big lie; repeat it frequently. Eventually, the public will come to accept the Big Lie.<\/p>\n

How effective is this? In February 2019,\u00a0Marist<\/a>\u00a0conducted a poll of 880 adults. The survey was commissioned by NPR and PBS and covered \u2018popular\u2019 gun control laws.<\/p>\n

The results were as one would expect: Big numbers for the gun-grabbers\u2019 agenda.<\/p>\n

However, the last question on the survey unintentionally affirmed how well the Big Lie works.<\/p>\n

The question was: \u201cFrom what you have heard or read, do you think, compared to 25 years ago, the per capita gun murder rate in the U.S. is higher, lower, or about the same?\u201d<\/p>\n

59% of the survey group said the rate had gone up; 23% said it was about the same.<\/p>\n

According to data from the\u00a0FBI<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0CDC<\/a>, over the 25 years from 1994 to 2018,\u00a0the murder rate plunged 37 percent<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

82% of those responding believed something demonstrably untrue<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Was that ever mentioned in the media coverage of the study? No.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As you read\u00a0Preventing Gun Violence Through Effective Messaging<\/em>, you will learn an important fact: The gun-control movement doesn\u2019t care about the Second Amendment or the rights it protects. They dismiss it by saying they support it or they\u2019re not coming to take our guns away. They then proceed to ignore it, confident the public will agree.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What this means is we\u2019re fighting the wrong battle. The Second Amendment doesn\u2019t need defending; it\u2019s secure and even the zealots in the gun control movement realize this.<\/p>\n

General George S. Patton once said:\u00a0\u201cNo one ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s good advice. We should heed it. Instead of being on the defensive, we need to \u201cattack and attack and attack some more.\u201d Our target is gun control\u2019s Big Lies, the biggest of which is the claim gun control laws save lives,\u00a0even though there isn\u2019t any statistical evidence to support that claim<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This battle is going to be tough, but we must win it by discrediting gun control; by exposing their Big Lies and destroying their stereotypes of gun owners.<\/strong><\/p>\n
