Trump DOJ wants Supreme Court to bring down hammer on gun rules<\/a><\/p>\n

WASHINGTON \u2212 After the\u00a0Supreme Court<\/a>\u00a0in 2022 made it\u00a0harder to restrict<\/a>\u00a0who can arm themselves in public, some states took a different approach.<\/p>\n

Five Democrat-led, mostly densely populous states passed laws that prohibit bringing a handgun onto someone else\u2019s property without that person\u2019s express consent.<\/p>\n

Now the Trump administration wants the\u00a0Supreme Court<\/a>\u00a0to declare that such rules in Hawaii, California, New York, Maryland and New Jersey violate the Constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States has a substantial interest in the preservation of the right to keep and bear arms and in the proper interpretation of the Second Amendment,\u201d Solicitor General John Sauer\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0in explaining why the Department of Justice wants the high court to weigh in.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not the only example of how the change in administrations is affecting litigation over gun regulations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
