One of the countries they love to use as an exemplar for gun control Nirvana they seek is Canada.<\/p>\n<p>For the last decade under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spectator.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Screenshot_2021-09-20_at_12.26.39.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Justin Trudeau<\/a>, Canada ratcheted up their gun control laws. This went against what he had promised back in 2010, when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AaronGunn\/status\/1257435659469492228\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he said he would never confiscate guns<\/a>\u00a0but that lie really isn\u2019t surprising. We see that with purple and red state Democrats on this side of the border who engage in a sort of gun control\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@rami_zahra\/al-taqiyya-the-terrorist-art-of-deception-548ce3514369\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">taqiyya<\/a>. They promise not to ban guns like the AR-15 during their campaigns, then support bans after the election (see:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/triblive.com\/local\/regional\/heres-how-u-s-reps-from-western-pa-voted-on-gun-legislation-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Conor Lamb<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrapvf.org\/articles\/20160921\/nra-debunks-jason-kanders-second-amendment-lies-in-new-ad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jason Kander<\/a>, and many others).<\/p>\n<div class=\"css-146c3p1 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-37j5jr r-a023e6 r-rjixqe r-16dba41 r-bnwqim\" dir=\"auto\" lang=\"en\" data-testid=\"tweetText\">\n<p>Under Trudeau, Canada did all of the following, which would make America\u2019s gun control industry swoon if it happned here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Passed new legislation which extended background checks from five years to a lifetime<\/li>\n<li>Implemented a point-of-sale registration by business<\/li>\n<li>Required authorization to transport restricted and prohibited firearms to locations other than the range (e.g. gunsmiths, gun shows, etc.) through strengthened transportation requirements<\/li>\n<li>Prohibited 1,500 models of \u201cassault-style\u201d weapons, the public was offered a grace period to turn them in<\/li>\n<li>National freeze on the sale of new handguns<\/li>\n<li>Banned another 400 guns by make and model just recently<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So, with all of this new gun control, homicides must have surely fallen through the floor, right? After all, that\u2019s the whole point of passing more gun control laws isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n<p>Nope.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"css-146c3p1 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-37j5jr r-a023e6 r-rjixqe r-16dba41 r-bnwqim\" dir=\"auto\" lang=\"en\" data-testid=\"tweetText\">\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/t1\/tbl1\/en\/tv.action?pid=3510007101&amp;pickMembers%5B0%5D=2.1&amp;cubeTimeFrame.startYear=2014&amp;cubeTimeFrame.endYear=2024&amp;referencePeriods=20140101%2C20240101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statistics Canada<\/a>, a government website linked below, homicides steadily rose almost every single year Trudeau was in office, finally falling slightly in 2023 and 2024 (while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/static01.nyt.com\/images\/2024\/09\/12\/briefing\/oakImage-1726176458545\/oakImage-1726176458545-articleLarge.png?quality=75&amp;auto=webp&amp;disable=upscale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">falling even more in the US<\/a>\u00a0in that time frame).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_26948\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26948\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-26948 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/files.shootingnewsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/30110207\/canada-homicides-1024x651.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/files.shootingnewsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/30110207\/canada-homicides-1024x651.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/files.shootingnewsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/30110207\/canada-homicides-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/files.shootingnewsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/30110207\/canada-homicides-768x488.jpg 768w, https:\/\/files.shootingnewsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/30110207\/canada-homicides-1536x976.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/files.shootingnewsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/30110207\/canada-homicides-2048x1301.jpg 2048w\" alt=\"Canada Canadian homicide rates\" width=\"1024\" height=\"651\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-26948\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/t1\/tbl1\/en\/tv.action?pid=3510007101&amp;pickMembers%5B0%5D=2.1&amp;cubeTimeFrame.startYear=2014&amp;cubeTimeFrame.endYear=2024&amp;referencePeriods=20140101%2C20240101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statistics Canada<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As of 2024, Canada has around 250 more homicides per year than it did in 2014, before Trudeau became Prime Minister. The per capita rate has risen from 1.48 per 100,000, to 1.9 per 100,000.<\/p>\n<p>Canada has also had frequent mass shootings under Trudeau,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_mass_shootings_in_Canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than before he took office<\/a>. From 2005 thorough 2014, Canada had six shootings that resulted in four or more people killed. From 2015 through the end of 2024, the Trudeau era, there were 15 such shootings. That, of course, doesn\u2019t include attacks by other methods, like a car attack\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-56269095\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that killed 10 in Toronto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In summary, Canadians have gained absolutely nothing in exchange for turning in common types of firearms they had previously been allowed to own for generations.
