AB 1127 effectively bans the sale of new Glock models (the handful that are still legally for sale in California), starting July 1, 2026.

California, already not the most gun-friendly state, passed AB 1127 in response to growing concerns over Glock “switches,” small, illegal devices that easily convert most Glock pistols to fire in full-auto mode.

According to the Glock Store, the V models are being released specifically to prevent the use of such switches, though Glock has not officially confirmed that. Again, we have reached out to Glock for additional comment. We also asked if these new models are intended to be California legal.

What This Means for Glock Fans

If you own a Glock, don’t sell it now! It’s almost guaranteed to increase in value over the years.

Questions remain about exactly what changes are being made to the existing Gen5 Glock models. There are rumors of Glock pre-installing a form of Glock Performance Trigger in these new models. And there are also concerns that any changes to Glock’s long-proven design could introduce reliability issues. Glock is now offering review units to firearm journalists, and we will be sure to request at least one to try the V out for ourselves.

Many firearm enthusiasts are angry over these changes, accusing Glock of rolling over to anti-gun politicians in California. Fair enough, assuming the Glock Store’s explanation is accurate. But Glock, like the rest of us, is subject to laws, and full-auto weapons are very much a no-no under federal law. Furthermore, videos of full-auto Glocks freak out normal people who are ambivalent about guns and give ammo to the anti-gun lobby (pun intended), which is never good news for us gun owners.

We’re eager to hear more of Glock’s side of the story, their motivations for the V series, and what changes we can expect. Stay tuned to The Firearm Blog for the latest.

Say Goodbye to Glock, Say Hello to Glock V It’s official, Glock is relaunching most of its pistol lineup before the end of the year.
