Tim Walz Tries to Create a Backdoor Firearm Registry After Gun Ban Fails in State Legislature.<\/a><\/p>\n

Tim Walz may actually be one of those politicians who really is as dumb as he looks. Despite the DFL\u2019s [Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party] virtual control of Minnesota government, he still couldn\u2019t gin up enough support to push an \u201cassault weapons\u201d ban through the legislature. About that situation, he wasn\u2019t happy.<\/p>\n

Not willing to allow that very public failure to stand, he signed two executive orders yesterday designed to generate some, uh, positive headlines in the state\u2019s cooperative legacy press as a way to blunt the effects of the legislative defeat, the latest in a long string of\u00a0very bad news<\/a>\u00a0for the\u00a0hapless knucklehead<\/a>\u00a0who sits in the big chair.<\/p>\n

Governor Tim Walz signed two executive orders on Tuesday morning, surrounded by DFL lawmakers and advocates for gun violence prevention.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI do not have the capacity as governor to issue an executive order to get rid of [assault weapons], but what I do have the ability to do is to start to move in a direction,\u201d he said ahead of signing the orders.<\/em><\/p>\n

The first order, according to Walz, aims to expand the administration\u2019s efforts to provide added education on so-called red flag laws and safe storage practices.<\/em><\/p>\n

The order will also require insurance companies to submit homeowners\u2019 policy and claims data on firearms, using the state\u2019s existing authority to issue \u201cdata calls\u201d to recommend possible policy changes to the legislature.<\/em><\/p>\n

Using taxpayer dollars to encourage the use of due process-free red flag law firearm confiscation isn\u2019t anything new. It\u2019s been done by the usual suspects at both the\u00a0federal<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0state<\/a>\u00a0levels. But Walz is also creating a bureaucratic monstrosity he\u2019s euphemistically calling the \u201cStatewide Safety Council.\u201d In practice it will likely serve the same purpose in the Land o\u2019 Lakes as Biden\u2019s now defunct White House\u00a0Office Gun Violence Prevention<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus\u00a0describes it<\/a>\u00a0. . .<\/p>\n

The newly announced Statewide Safety Council raises serious concerns. The council is composed entirely of appointed officials and pro\u2013gun control advocates, with no representation from the Second Amendment community. Like similar advisory panels in the past, it appears designed to deliver predetermined recommendations aligned with the Governor\u2019s policy goals rather than to provide balanced input or genuine stakeholder engagement.<\/em><\/p>\n

And then there\u2019s Walz\u2019s attempt to\u00a0hoover up data<\/a>\u00a0on gun owners from insurance companies . . .<\/p>\n

\u201cThe insurance companies, they need to let us know what the economic impact is,\u201d said Walz, \u201cWe know what the economic impact is. We know what the emotional impact is; now we can quantify it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The only thing is, economic data isn\u2019t likely the only thing Walz is looking for here. Again from the\u00a0Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus<\/a>\u00a0. . .<\/p>\n

We are closely reviewing the legality of Governor Walz\u2019s executive order directing state agencies to gather data from insurance companies, including any information related to firearms owned by peaceable, law-abiding Minnesotans.<\/em><\/p>\n

We have already heard from dozens of our members who are deeply concerned that the Walz administration is attempting to build a registry of gun owners and the firearms they legally own by using insurance records as a backdoor mechanism.<\/em><\/p>\n

Let us be clear: any attempt to track or monitor Minnesota gun owners will be met with fierce resistance.<\/em><\/p>\n

We will take all appropriate legal and legislative action to protect the privacy, dignity, and rights of Minnesotans under the Second Amendment and the Minnesota Constitution.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Constitution is not a suggestion.<\/em><\/p>\n

Governor Walz does not get to decide which rights are convenient to ignore.<\/em><\/p>\n
