{"id":114348,"date":"2026-01-02T11:01:54","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T17:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=114348"},"modified":"2026-01-02T11:02:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T17:02:14","slug":"114348","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=114348","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A state that never allowed slavery, wants to make residents who never owned slaves, pay reparations to people who never were slaves.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/31\/us-news\/san-francisco-mayor-quietly-signs-black-reparations-bill\/\">San Fran mayor signs bill that could give black residents $5M each \u2014 but admits city is too broke to pay.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie quietly signed a questionable bill to create a reparations fund for black residents \u2014 but acknowledged the city is too broke to pay, sparking a swift backlash from critics who call the plan blatantly illegal.<\/p>\n<p>The bill, which was passed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/18\/us-news\/san-francisco-moves-to-create-reparations-fund-despite-legal-concerns\/\">unanimously by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month, creates a fund to accept private or public money for a controversial reparations plan that calls for cash payouts of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/01\/16\/sf-reparations-panel-proposes-5m-lump-sum-payment-to-eligible-residents\/\">$5 million each to eligible black residents<\/a>, debt forgiveness, 250 years of tax abatements, and income subsidies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not allocating money to this fund \u2014 with a historic $1 billion budget deficit, we are going to spend our money on making the city safer and cleaner,\u201d said Lurie in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Still, critics have called the reparations plan unlawful \u201cvirtue signaling\u201d even if private dollars are used.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Racial preferences in government programs are banned under the constitution, according to Andrew Quinio, attorney at the Pacific Legal Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ordinance has a very explicit racially discriminatory purpose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cnx-ui-wrapper cnx-bp-xl-lit\">\n<div class=\"cnx-ui-bottom-bar-container cnx-bp-xl-lit\">\n<div class=\"cnx-progress cnx-bp-xl-lit\">\n<div class=\"cnx-progress-bar cnx-bp-xl-lit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"comments-inline-cta\" data-comment-count=\"\" data-prompt=\"What do you think?\">\n<div>\n<p class=\"comments-inline-cta__wrap\">The bill, authored by Supervisor Shamann Walton, states that the fund is intended to \u201cprovide restitution, compensation, and rehabilitation to individuals who are black and\/or descendants of a chattel enslaved person and have experienced a proven harm in San Francisco.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Walton previously called for a $50 million Office of Reparations in 2023, but was rebuffed by then-mayor London Breed.<\/p>\n<p>Advocates for the program argue that reparations are needed to support black communities who suffered under discriminatory government projects like a decades-long redevelopment of the city\u2019s Fillmore district that razed homes owned by black families.<\/p>\n<div class=\"single__inline-module inline-module inline-module--newsletter aligncenter inline-module--nypostbusinessunit aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-newsletter\" data-source-unit=\"Inline Newsletter Module Cali - Early Edition\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__title-wrapper\"><\/div>\n<form class=\"inline-module__form wp-block-gtf-editor-newsletter-signup-form\" data-nypost-editor=\"newsletter-block\" data-newsletter-list-id=\"146108\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form__notice\">\n<p class=\"m-bottom-none \">A prior effort to aid the city\u2019s black communities under Breed, called the Dream Keeper Initiative, erupted into scandal after its director was accused of pilfering city funds for personal needs, <a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2025\/03\/20\/san-francisco-nonprofit-scandal-human-rights-commission-sheryl-davis-collective-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like her son\u2019s UCLA tuition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/form>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Human Rights Commission, the same department that ran the ill-fated Dream Keeper Initiative, is in charge of the reparations fund, according to the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are livid. Lurie\u2019s stained his reputation,\u201d said local\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/09\/opinion\/san-francisco-californias-supposed-rebound-has-a-long-way-to-go\/\">conservative activist Richie Greenberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other critics piled on after Lurie clandestinely signed the bill just before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven the San Francisco NAACP called the $5M payout \u2018arbitrary\u2019 and warned the plan gave \u2018false hope.\u2019 But that didn\u2019t stop city leaders from pushing it forward with virtue-signaling fanfare,\u201d wrote author Gerald Posner, who grew up in San Francisco,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/geraldposner\/status\/2006208674423787881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on X.<\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image
