Gun Owners Have Even More Than Usual to Celebrate This Independence Day.<\/a><\/p>\n

Following\u00a0two<\/a>\u00a0significant Supreme Court\u00a0rulings<\/a>\u00a0on the Second Amendment, and the Court\u2019s announcement it will finally consider the constitutionality of\u00a0state and local gun bans<\/a>, American gun owners have a lot to celebrate this July 4th<\/sup><\/span>\u00a0as the nation reaches its milestone 250th<\/sup><\/span>\u00a0anniversary of independence, according to the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe live in a nation founded on the concepts of freedom and individual liberty,\u201d said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, \u201cand the cornerstone of our Bill of Rights, the guideposts by which we have made our way through history, is the Second Amendment, protecting the fundamental right of the people to keep and bear arms. This would not have happened without the dedication of our sister organization, the Second Amendment Foundation, which has been on the front lines of this battle. Both cases which have been granted high court review are SAF cases,\u00a0Viramontes v. Cook County<\/i><\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Grant v. Higgins<\/i><\/span><\/a>, and we are proud to have been part of those efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at the record,\u201d he observed. \u201cSince the 2022\u00a0Bruen<\/i>\u00a0ruling, court cases made possible by SAF\u2019s victory in the 2010\u00a0McDonald<\/i><\/span><\/a>\u00a0case\u2014with our state affiliate organization, the Illinois State Rifle Association as a co-plaintiff\u2014including those involving the CCRKBA, have invalidated at least 78 restrictive gun control laws and regulations around the country. Now, with the 6-3 ruling in\u00a0Wolford v. Lopez<\/i><\/span><\/a>, the score has risen to 79, and could go as high as 83 as it applies to similar restrictive laws in California, Maryland, New Jersey and New York. Fighting back with history and the Constitution on our side has resulted in a string of losses to the gun prohibition movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven before that,\u201d Gottlieb recalled, \u201cwe were beginning to set the record straight starting with the 2008\u00a0Heller<\/i><\/span><\/a>\u00a0ruling. The\u00a0McDonald\u00a0<\/i>ruling, incorporating the Second Amendment to the states via the 14th<\/sup><\/span>\u00a0Amendment, opened the flood gates for several successful legal challenges by SAF, CCRKBA and others, to unconstitutional gun control laws across the country<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd now, the Supreme Court\u2019s long-awaited announcement that it will scrutinize bans on modern semiautomatic sport-utility rifles when it convenes in October came as a vindication of our decades-long fight to restore the Second Amendment to its original stature,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt is the proverbial icing on the cake, along with the Court\u2019s decision to let the SAF victory in the Third Circuit stand by denying Pennsylvania\u2019s certiorari petition, which tried to deny full gun rights to young adults in the 18- to 20-year age group.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are especially proud of our state affiliate, the Connecticut Citizens Defense League (CCDL), and its leader, Holly Sullivan, who coincidentally serves on the CCRKBA Board of Directors,\u201d Gottlieb added. \u201cBecause CCDL is a plaintiff in the\u00a0Grant\u00a0<\/i>case challenging Connecticut\u2019s rifle ban, it essentially puts the Committee on the playing field. Frankly, we wouldn\u2019t have it any other way.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the first time in recent history, we have a Justice Department willing to enforce the Second Amendment, rather than sit on the sidelines as private organizations defend the Constitution,\u201d Gottlieb noted. \u201cIt is gratifying at this special time in our nation\u2019s history to have allies so willing to step forward and join us in this great cause.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wish everyone an incredible July Fourth,\u201d he concluded, \u201cas we celebrate America\u2019s 250th<\/sup><\/span> birthday. We renew our commitment to protect and defend the Constitution, and especially the Second Amendment.
