I guess we&#8217;ll have to write off San Francisco now.<\/p>\n<div data-v-5281cbd1=\"\"><\/div>\n<div data-v-5281cbd1=\"\">\n<blockquote><p>Chinese scientists have found traces of the new coronavirus in the faeces of some infected patients, possibly indicating an additional mode of transmitting the deadly disease.<\/p>\n<p>Health authorities had previously thought the main ways the disease was spread was through respiratory droplet transmission and contact, including touching the face after exposure to a surface containing the virus.<\/p>\n<p>But new findings from Shenzhen Third People\u2019s Hospital raise the possibility of faecel-oral transmission, after researchers found genetic traces of coronavirus \u00a0in patients\u2019 stool samples.<\/p>\n<p>The presence of the 2019 coronavirus RNA, or ribonucleic acid \u2013 a molecule that carries genetic codes in some viruses \u2013 indicates the disease may live in faeces, the Shenzhen Health Commission said in a statement on Saturday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Coronavirus: scientists identify possible new mode of transmission in human faeces Not surprising as the virus that causes polio uses the same vector.
