{"id":54762,"date":"2020-05-12T00:33:26","date_gmt":"2020-05-12T05:33:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=54762"},"modified":"2020-05-12T00:35:11","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T05:35:11","slug":"54762","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=54762","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think what the perfesser is really worried about homeschooling is the missed opportunities for progressive indoctrination.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/?ID=14850\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harvard \u2018Anti-Homeschooling\u2019 Event \u2018Cancelled\u2019 Amid Conservative Backlash<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Opponents of a controversial Harvard homeschooling summit claim the event has been canceled, but the Ivy League institution is still tight-lipped as to whether that is indeed the case.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the invite-only event, \u201cHomeschooling Summit: Problems, Politics, and Prospects for Reform,\u201dwas to \u201cdiscuss child rights in connection with homeschooling in the United States,\u201d with a focus on \u201cproblems of educational deprivation and child maltreatment that too often occur under the guise of homeschooling, in a legal environment of minimal or no oversight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With agenda items such as \u201cConcerns with Homeschooling\u201d and \u201cLitigation Strategies for Reform,\u201d the aim of the event was to equip critics of homeschooling and educators against the practice with \u201cstrategies for effecting such reform.\u201d The co-organizer and one of the most controversial featured speakers was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hls.harvard.edu\/faculty\/directory\/10048\/Bartholet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elizabeth Bartholet<\/a>, a professor of law and faculty director of Harvard Law School\u2019s Child Advocacy Program.<\/p>\n<p><em>Campus Reform<\/em>\u00a0previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/?ID=14743\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported\u00a0<\/a>that Bartholet framed homeschooling as &#8220;authoritarian&#8221; and suggested the government ban it.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harvardmagazine.com\/2020\/05\/right-now-risks-homeschooling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harvard Magazine<\/a>, Bartholet said, \u201cWe have an essentially unregulated regime in the area of homeschooling.\u201d Her reasons for wanting to ban homeschooling include the lack of regulations setting standards on which parents are allowed to homeschool, the isolation of children, the absence of teachers who could act as \u201cmandated reporters,\u201d and the threat it creates that will ultimately jeopardize America\u2019s democracy&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think what the perfesser is really worried about homeschooling is the missed opportunities for progressive indoctrination.
