{"id":55138,"date":"2023-05-29T00:04:40","date_gmt":"2023-05-29T05:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=55138"},"modified":"2023-05-28T13:58:32","modified_gmt":"2023-05-28T18:58:32","slug":"55138","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=55138","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/05\/21\/most-americans-have-no-clue-why-we-celebrate-memorial-day\/\">Most Americans have no clue why we celebrate Memorial Day.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/05\/memorial-day-11.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=618&amp;h=410&amp;crop=1\" alt=\"Los Angeles National Cemetery.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Less than half of Americans know the true meaning behind Memorial Day, according to a survey taken a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The survey of 2,000 Americans revealed just 43 percent were aware it\u2019s a holiday honoring those who died in service while in the US Armed Forces.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-eight percent mistakenly believed Memorial Day was a holiday honoring all military veterans who have served in the US Armed Forces \u2014 which is actually Veterans Day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15702526\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was revealed to be a common mistake: A third of respondents (36 percent) admitted to being unsure of the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.<\/p>\n<p>Conducted by OnePoll on behalf of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenix.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Phoenix<\/a>, the survey tested Americans on their knowledge of the holiday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor many Americans, Memorial Day is a much-needed day off to relax and enjoy their family. It is important to understand that it is also a solemn day of remembrance. For me, as a combat veteran and for military members and their families, this day holds great significance. Not everyone I served with was fortunate enough to return home,\u201d said Brian Ishmael, senior director, University of Phoenix Office of Military and Veteran Affairs and former US Army sergeant.<\/p>\n<p>Even though there\u2019s some confusion about the holiday, 83 percent of Americans believe it\u2019s important to do something to commemorate Memorial Day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most Americans have no clue why we celebrate Memorial Day.
