So now let’s go to the next step, a complete and comprehensive ban on the sale and ownership of all handguns,\u201d Canadian Broadcasting Corporation\u00a0opinion writer Tony Keene demands<\/a>.<\/p>\n It\u2019s not just \u201cmilitary-style assault rifles.\u201d\u00a0Per The Daily Wire<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u201c[T]he list of banned guns includes 10- and 12-gauge shotguns \u2014 a necessity for hunting in many of Canada\u2019s more remote locales \u2014 hunting rifles, a BB gun, and even the website AR15.com.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u201cThere is no conceivable reason why an ordinary person needs to own a handgun,\u201d Keene asserts. \u201cNo reason whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n People who have\u00a0used guns to save their lives<\/a>\u00a0and to stop violent criminals would disagree with Tony. So would the National Academies\u2019 Institute of Medicine and National Research Council,\u00a0which concludes<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u201cAlmost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n But don\u2019t bother opinionated Tony with facts. He\u2019s self-evidently the type of prohibitionist zealot\u00a0described by libertarian novelist L. Neil Smith<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u201cWhat kind of moral cripple would rather see a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose, than see her with a gun in her hand?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The kind that demands a totalitarian\u00a0monopoly of violence<\/a>. Tony goes on to prove it and which side he\u2019s on.<\/p>\n \u201cThose of us trained in the use of handguns (and I mean properly trained, by the police or the military, not just a weekend course at the local gun club) know that the armed amateur is dangerous,\u201d Tony instructs, making sure to include himself as a former military reservist in the exclusive cadre of armed elites.<\/p>\n It seems Tony \u201cserved for more than four decades as a military reservist and took part in, and wrote about, multiple missions in Canada and abroad.\u201d Good for him, he\u2019s a veteran.\u00a0 So was\u00a0one of our country\u2019s greatest military heroes<\/a>, and he\u2019s remembered today as Tony deserves to be for the destruction of liberty he wants to force on his countrymen.<\/p>\n As for \u201cthose\u2026properly trained,\u201d they get three tries to qualify with \u201cpolicing standards\u201d?\u00a0These are them<\/a>? That\u2019s it? But Tony obnoxiously dismisses gun owners who put themselves through more demanding exercises on any given weekend as \u201cCitizen Rambos\u201d?<\/p>\n \u201cLikewise, the term \u2018shooting yourself in the foot\u2019 is not just a metaphor,\u201d Tony bloviates, oblivious that he has just stepped in a real-world refutation of his ignorant arrogance.\u00a0 Remember DEA agent Lee Paige, the guy who claimed to be \u201cthe only one \u2026 professional enough\u201d to carry a gun, and then did just that?<\/p>\n
