Louisiana: Package of Pro-Gun Bills Heads to the Governor\u2019s Desk<\/a><\/p>\n

Four pro-gun bills have been passed by the Louisiana Legislature and will now be sent to the desk of Governor John Bel Edwards for his signature.<\/p>\n

House Bill 746<\/a>, sponsored by Rep. Ray Garofalo, allows those who lawfully possess a firearm to carry concealed for self-defense during a mandatory evacuation under a declared state of emergency or disaster.<\/p>\n

House Bill 781<\/a>, sponsored by Rep. Blake Miguez,\u00a0establishes that firearms and ammunition manufacturers,\u00a0distributors, wholesalers, suppliers, and retailers are \u201cEssential Businesses\u201d that shall not be prohibited from conducting business during a declared disaster or emergency.\u00a0 HB 781 further prevents law-abiding gun owners\u2019 rights from being infringed during proclaimed curfews.<\/p>\n

House Bill 140<\/a>, sponsored by Rep. Blake Miguez,\u00a0prevents local authorities and municipalities from imposing restrictions to prohibit the possession of a firearm.\u00a0 Preemption legislation is designed to stop municipalities from creating a patchwork of different laws that turn a law-abiding citizen into a criminal for simply crossing a jurisdictional line.<\/p>\n

House Bill 334<\/a>, sponsored by Reps. Bryan Fontenot, Blake Miguez and Charles Owen,\u00a0authorizes a concealed handgun permit holder\u00a0to carry a concealed handgun in a church, synagogue, mosque,\u00a0or other similar place of worship,\u00a0with\u00a0permission\u00a0from\u00a0church leadership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
