Sampson in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba during the Spanish-American War.<\/p>\n<p>1913 \u2013 Confederate veterans at the Great Reunion of 1913 reenact Pickett&#8217;s Charge; upon reaching the high water mark of the Confederacy on the battlefield, they are met by the outstretched hands of friendship from Union veterans of the battle.<\/p>\n<p>1938 \u2013 President Roosevelt dedicates the Eternal Light Peace Memorial and lights the eternal flame at Gettysburg Battlefield.<\/p>\n<p>1952 \u2013 The United States Lines&#8217;, passenger liner, SS <em>United States<\/em> sets sail from New York Harbor on her maiden voyage to Southampton.
