{"id":56689,"date":"2020-07-06T00:36:03","date_gmt":"2020-07-06T05:36:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=56689"},"modified":"2020-07-06T00:36:36","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T05:36:36","slug":"56689","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=56689","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not slavery they oppose, it&#8217;s American history.\u00a0 Otherwise\u00a0 they wouldn&#8217;t destroy\u00a0 the statue of a former slave who spent the rest of his life fighting slavery.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.vn\/45EMr#selection-405.0-405.82\">Frederick Douglass statue vandalized on anniversary of his Rochester speech.<\/a><\/p>\n<div>On the same weekend in which famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass 168 years ago delivered one of his most historically resonant speeches, a statue\u00a0of Douglass was toppled from its base and left near the Genesee River gorge.<\/div>\n<div>Located in Maplewood Park, the statue &#8220;had been placed over the fence to the gorge and was leaning against the fence&#8221; on the river side, according to a statement from Rochester police. The statue was left about 50 feet from its pedestal.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div>The base and lower part of the statue was damaged, as was a finger on the statue&#8217;s left hand.<\/div>\n<div>There is historical significance to the timing of the vandalism\u00a0\u2014 though no one can now say whether the timing was mere happenstance\u00a0\u2014 just as there is historical significance to the statue&#8217;s very location.
