WA Gun Prohibition Lobby Group Does Gun Rights Voters a Favor<\/a><\/p>\n

The Seattle-based Alliance for Gun Responsibility, a billionaire-backed gun prohibition lobbying group, has done Evergreen State conservatives\u2014especially gun owners\u2014a huge favor by publishing its\u00a0\u201c2020 Legislative Score Card.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n

That this information is available right before the Aug. 4 primary election is no small thing. One glance up and down the list tells gun owners who not to vote for in state legislative races, and the formula is easy.<\/p>\n

If a politician gets a \u201c0%\u201d Voting grade, vote for him or her. Politicians rating \u201c100%\u201d should get an immediate rejection, and their opponent should get the gun owner vote. In between, any politician earning a rating below 50% deserves a look, while anyone popping above 50% should be considered overdue for replacement.<\/p>\n

This list is not partisan. For example, both Reps.\u00a0Brian Blake (D)<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Jim Walsh (R)<\/a>\u00a0in the state\u2019s 19th Legislative District earned a big Zero from the Alliance, because both are steadfast pro-rights lawmakers who don\u2019t just \u201csupport\u201d the Second Amendment and Article 1, Section 24 of the state constitution, they exercise the rights guaranteed by both constitutional provisions.<\/p>\n

Most of the high grades actually do go to Democrats. For example, in the 5th District of east King County, Reps. Lisa Callan and Bill Ramos both scored 100% grades from the gun ban lobby.<\/p>\n

Then there are \u201cspecial\u201d politicians with whom anti-gunners are apparently enamored, including 22nd District Democrat State Rep. Beth Doglio, who not only gets a 100% rating, she also earned a big red star next to her name for \u201cgoing the extra mile for gun safety,\u201d meaning she pushed gun control in Olympia. What makes Doglio\u2019s grade so important is that she is now running for Congress in the 10th Congressional District in southern Puget Sound. Her main opposition for the party nomination is former Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland, who heads the Seattle Metro Chamber of Commerce, according to BallotPedia.<\/p>\n

Strickland completed the BallotPedia candidate survey, but according to the website, Doglio did not. Strickland has been getting some high-profile support in her advertising, but Doglio is also getting support, from Sen. Bernie Sanders.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re running for the vacancy created by Democrat Denny Heck, who is running hard to become the next Lieutenant Governor with an ad campaign highlighting his opposition to Donald Trump, who is not running to be Washington\u2019s next Lt. Governor. Even his Congressional\u00a0retirement announcement<\/a>\u00a0couldn\u2019t resist a jab at the president.<\/p>\n

Another way to measure candidates is by their letter grade from the Alliance. There are several \u201cA+\u201d grades on the Alliance list, again making it easy for gun owners to fill out their ballots in those legislative districts. There is a large block on the list naming lawmakers from legislative districts 12 through 20 with all representatives from those districts earning \u201c0%\u201d and \u201cF\u201d grades. Those are central and southwest Washington districts where gun ownership is high.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the\u00a0Alliance website<\/a>\u00a0says this:<\/p>\n
