Coronavirus: Joe Biden Says He\u2019s Willing to Shut Down Country Again<\/a><\/p>\n

Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden revealed Friday that he would re-lock down the United States if scientists recommended the extreme measure to stop the spread of the Chinese coronavirus.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would shut it down; I would listen to the scientists,\u201d Biden replied when asked by ABC\u2019s World News Tonight anchor David Muir if he would shut down the country if experts proposed the measure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will be prepared to do whatever it takes to save lives because we cannot get the country moving until we control the virus,\u201d Biden, flanked by running mate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), said. \u201cThat is the fundamental flaw of this administration\u2019s thinking to begin with. In order to keep the country running and moving and the economy growing, and people employed, you have to fix the virus, you have to deal with the virus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s remarks come one day after the former vice president pledged<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0implement a national mask mandate during his Democrat National Convention nomination acceptance speech. Days earlier,\u00a0Biden said all Americans should wear masks \u201coutside.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s institute a mask mandate nationwide,\u201d he proposed.\u00a0\u201cEvery single American should be wearing a mask when they are outside for the next three months at a minimum.\u201d<\/p>\n

Re-shutting down the country, something President Donald Trump has opposed, would be a move at least some Americans could potentially disagree with.<\/p>\n

The majority of Americans favor returning to work even in the era of coronavirus. Fifty-eight percent of Americans say returning to work is a good idea, according to an\u00a0NPR\/PBS NewsHour\/Marist Poll<\/a>\u00a0of 1,261 National Adults.\u00a0Support for returning to work is broad, cutting across income, education, ethnic, generational, regional, age, and gender lines.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
