Central Florida man shoots home intruder dead after \u2018bizarre\u2019 crime spree<\/a><\/p>\n<span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A homeowner fatally shot a home intruder after the suspect\u2019s \u201cbizarre\u201d crime spree Friday morning in Lakeland, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.<\/p>\n<p>The dead man, 45, and a woman who was with him had driven from Orlando to Polk County to meet someone, Judd said.<\/p>\n<p>When the man broke into a resident\u2019s home, the homeowner\u2019s parents, wife, and a 9-year-old were also inside.<\/p>\n<p>Judd said the homeowner didn\u2019t immediately shoot, but called 911 and tried to subdue the suspect after the 6-foot, 250-pound man crashed through a glass front door, Judd said.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Deputies arrived shortly after and attempted first aid on the suspect \u201cto no avail,\u201d Judd said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis homeowner was perfectly justified in what he did,\u201d Judd said, adding that the State Attorney\u2019s Office will investigate and make the final determination. An investigation has been launched, Judd said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier Friday, Judd said the suspect was screaming erratically, bleeding and, according to one witness, \u201cgrowling.\u201d The man had jumped on several vehicles and broke at least one windshield; and tried to enter a school bus with at least one child on board, but the driver locked the door before he could get in.<\/p>\n<p>Judd called the bus driver \u201ca hero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The man had been driving a pickup north on Old Polk City Road when swerved all over the road and crashed through a fence and into a tree.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect\u2019s identity has not been released, but Judd said he had a criminal history.<\/p>\n<p>Judd says his department has \u201cno idea\u201d what prompted the man\u2019s behavior but added, \u201cthis has meth written all over it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Deputies also found a knife in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The chain of events began at about 6:10 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff\u2019s office didn\u2019t say whether there were any injuries to woman who was with the suspect, or what her relationship to him was.<\/p>\n<p>The child on the school bus was delivered to school safely.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the second one in less than a week in Polk County Florida.
