Sen. Rand Paul says Homeland Security panel will refer report on Bidens, Ukraine to DOJ for criminal probe<\/a><\/p>\n

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., plans to refer\u00a0the\u00a0Senate Homeland Security and Finance Committees’\u00a0report\u00a0on\u00a0their investigation into Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings\u00a0to the Department of Justice later this week, he told\u00a0“The Story”\u00a0Wednesday.<\/p>\n

“I think riding on Air Force\u00a0Two and doing business is illegal …\u00a0and probably a felony,” Paul told host Martha MacCallum. “I think it’s illegal to take\u00a0money from a Russian\u00a0politician’s wife, $3.5 million, was it reported\u00a0accurately?”<\/p>\n

Paul was referencing items from the\u00a0new report\u00a0which details Hunter Biden\u2019s role on the\u00a0board of Ukrainian natural gas firm\u00a0Burisma Holdings\u00a0and his alleged \u201cextensive and complex financial transactions.”<\/p>\n

The Senate committees revealed\u00a0that they had\u00a0obtained records\u00a0that\u00a0\u201cshow potential criminal activity relating to transactions among and between Hunter Biden, his family, and his associates with Ukrainian, Russian, Kazakh and Chinese nationals.<\/p>\n

Investigators also found\u00a0millions of dollars\u00a0in \u201cquestionable financial transactions\u201d between Hunter Biden and his associates and foreign individuals, including the wife of the former mayor of Moscow\u00a0as well as individuals with ties to the Chinese Communist Party.<\/p>\n

“I think the only way to\u00a0determine the actual legality of this\u00a0is to have it referred to the Department of Justice,” said Paul, a member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, “so I’m gonna send the report over tomorrow.\u00a0I don’t know if the whole comittee will vote for it but …\u00a0we are asking for a criminal\u00a0referral.”<\/p>\n

The senator added that he wants\u00a0to see “a\u00a0criminal investigation that’s\u00a0justified.<\/p>\n

“Here is this\u00a0evidence, look at it, and then\u00a0you as the lawyers for the\u00a0government decide if you\u00a0have enough to prosecute,” he said, “but I think we should refer this for a criminal investigation.”<\/p>\n

Asked earlier about the\u00a0grand jury indictment\u00a0of a\u00a0former Louisville police officer in connection with the March drug raid that resulted in the death of\u00a0Breonna Taylor, Paul expressed his commitment to eliminating so-called “no-knock raids” and said he is “working hard to try to make\u00a0sure either federal law or local\u00a0law prevents this from\u00a0happening” again<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
