Tulsi Gabbard on Dems’ Terror Law: \u2018We Don\u2019t Have to Guess About Where This Goes or How This Ends<\/a><\/p>\n

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) raised the alarm about the Democrats\u2019 disturbing crackdown on \u201cdomestic terrorism\u201d in the wake of the\u00a0Capitol riot<\/a> on January 6. She warned that the domestic terror bill that House Democrats have proposed would \u201cundermine our constitutional rights and freedoms,\u201d and lead to law enforcement targeting \u201calmost half of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have to guess about where this goes or how this ends,\u201d Gabbard said, ominously, in an\u00a0interview with Fox News<\/a>\u00a0on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you have people like former CIA Director John Brennan openly talking about how he\u2019s spoken with or heard from appointees and nominees in the Biden administration who are already starting to look across our country for these types of movements similar to the insurgencies they\u2019ve seen overseas, that in his words, he says make up this \u2018unholy alliance\u2019 of religious extremists, racists, bigots, he lists a few others and at the end, even libertarians,\u201d the former congresswoman noted.<\/p>\n

Indeed, as\u00a0PJ Media\u2019s Paula Bolyard<\/a>\u00a0reported, Brennan named libertarians as part of the \u201cunholy alliance\u201d including \u201creligious extremists,\u00a0authoritarians, fascists, bigots, racists, [and] nativists.\u201d Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald warned that Brennan is suggesting using \u201cthe tools that they used to take ISIS off the internet, the tools they used to destroy al-Qaeda,\u201d against political movements opposed to the Left.<\/p>\n

Gabbard, a former Democratic presidential candidate, echoed that warning.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat characteristics are we looking for as we are building this profile of a potential \u2018extremist,\u2019 what are we talking about? Religious extremists, are we talking about Christians, evangelical Christians, what is a religious extremist? Is it somebody who is pro-life? Where do you take this?\u201d the former congresswoman asked.<\/p>\n

She gave examples. \u201cOkay, well, obviously you have to be a white person, obviously likely male, libertarians. Well, anybody who loves freedom, liberty, maybe has an American flag their house or people who \u2014 you know \u2014 attended a Trump rally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gabbard warned that this would lead to \u201ca very dangerous undermining of our civil liberties, our freedoms in our Constitution, and a targeting of almost half of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former congresswoman mentioned\u00a0H.R. 350<\/a>, the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2021, and tied it to the growing demands on the Left that Trump supporters must be \u201cdeprogrammed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis whole effort, whether you\u2019re talking about this bill or people saying that we have to deprogram these Trump cultists and people who voted for Trump because they\u2019ve been radicalized, all of this just goes to further tear our country apart,\u201d Gabbard warned. \u201cAnd it moves towards the thing Joe Biden said in his inauguration speech that shouldn\u2019t happen, which is a dehumanization of your opponent.\u201d<\/p>\n

She called on Biden to condemn this terrifying trend. \u201cHe needs to denounce people like John Brennan and their statements, bills like the one Adam Schiff put forward, and truly speak to the American people about how we must come together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gabbard is correct, but Biden seems likely to support this domestic terror agenda. On the campaign trail, Biden said he plans to prioritize<\/a> passing a law against domestic terrorism. His blatant double standard in vocally condemning the Capitol riots while coddling the antifa and Black Lives Matter rioters who burned cities this past summer does not bode well for a balanced implementation of any terrorism law.<\/p>\n

Indeed, Biden has arguably demonized conservative Christians who oppose LGBT activism. In 2018 at an LGBT activist group, he\u00a0attacked people<\/a>\u00a0who have \u201ctried to define family\u201d in the U.S. as \u201cthe dregs of society.\u201d At the CNN LGBT town hall in October 2019, Biden called for a kind of\u00a0terror watchlist<\/a>\u00a0to monitor organizations that oppose same-sex marriage and transgender identity. Biden firmly supports the Equality Act, which would outlaw discrimination against LGBT people. While Americans do not support discrimination, laws like this have been weaponized to punish Christians for refusing to celebrate same-sex weddings.<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s domestic terror agenda may echo that of Attorney General Dana Nessel (D-Mich.), who targeted conservative groups in her announcement launching a new \u201chate crimes\u201d unit. Nessel condemned \u201chate groups\u201d in Michigan, referencing the\u00a0Southern Poverty Law Center<\/a> (SPLC), a once-noble civil rights organization that has weaponized its history in bankrupting groups like the Ku Klux Klan to brand mainstream conservative organizations \u201chate groups.\u201d<\/p>\n

In my book,\u00a0Making Hate Pay: The Corruption of the Southern Poverty Law Center<\/em>, I trace how the SPLC expanded its Klanwatch program to start defaming organizations like the\u00a0Family Research Council (FRC)<\/a>,\u00a0Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF)<\/a>,\u00a0ACT for America<\/a>, the Center for Security Policy (CSP), and many more as \u201chate groups,\u201d putting them on a \u201chate map\u201d with the KKK. This \u201chate map\u201d inspired a deranged man to target the Family Research Council (FRC) for a mass shooting in 2012.<\/p>\n

Former employees have described the \u201chate group\u201d list as a \u201ccon\u201d to bilk donors. They have noted that the list does not explain how many members are in each \u201chate group\u201d and that some \u201chate groups\u201d consist of one person or barely exist.<\/p>\n

Yet Nessel specifically cited the SPLC\u2019s list of \u201chate groups\u201d in launching her \u201chate crimes\u201d unit, and Nessel is far from alone among Democrats in relying on the SPLC. At least eight Democratic senators have\u00a0cited the SPLC<\/a> to condemn President Donald Trump\u2019s nominees. Kamala Harris, now Biden\u2019s vice president, attacked Trump judicial nominee Allison Rushing for participating in ADF events. This came after Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) had compared ADF to the Cambodian dictator Pol Pot. Even a former ACLU president, Nadine Strossen, stood up for ADF, vehemently disagreeing with the SPLC\u2019s accusation, yet these Democrats continue to cite it.<\/p>\n

It is not implausible that the Biden administration would weaponize anti-terror laws against conservatives.\u00a0As Bolyard pointed out, the Obama administration circulated a\u00a0terrorism dictionary<\/a>\u00a0in 2009 that described \u201cantiabortion extremism\u201d as \u201cA movement of groups or individuals who are virulently antiabortion and advocate violence against providers of abortion-related services, their employees, and their facilities.\u201d It went on to say that some individuals who oppose abortion \u201ccite various racist and anti-Semitic beliefs to justify their criminal activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2012,\u00a0a Department of Homeland Security threat assessment<\/a>\u00a0warned of \u201csingle-issue\u201d extremists they described as \u201cgroups or individuals that obsessively focus on very specific or narrowly-defined causes (e.g., anti-abortion, anti-Catholic, anti-nuclear, anti-Castro). The Obama administration\u00a0repeatedly targeted<\/a>\u00a0pro-life Americans in this way.<\/p>\n

Gabbard\u2019s warning is extremely important, and she is right to urge Biden to condemn Brennan\u2019s comments. Unfortunately, it seems Biden may be on board with the domestic war on terror agenda Gabbard warned about.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
