New push underway in Missouri to allow concealed carry on public transportation<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"row lee-text-row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8 fixed-col-left main-content\">\n<div class=\"lee-article-text first-p\">\n<p>JEFFERSON CITY \u2014 Concealed-carry permit holders would be able to legally board MetroLink trains and buses with their firearms if a proposal Missouri lawmakers are weighing becomes law.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lee-article-text\">\n<p>The Senate General Laws Committee heard legislation Tuesday by Sen.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mo.gov\/15info\/members\/mem02.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bob Onder<\/a>, R-Lake Saint Louis, that would allow guns on trains and buses amid continued security concerns regarding the region\u2019s mass transit systems. The measure wouldn\u2019t apply to Amtrak.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lee-article-text\">\n<p>The hearing this week followed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/crime-and-courts\/security-guard-for-metrolink-shot-and-killed-at-delmar-station\/article_505aea0d-f117-5cf9-a55c-5628e4ca3519.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the fatal shooting of security guard James Cook<\/a>\u00a0on Jan. 31 at the Delmar MetroLink station. Eight days later, the Bi-State Development Agency, which oversees MetroLink,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/crime-and-courts\/bi-state-board-rejects-push-to-rearm-metrolink-security-guards\/article_a90c5aaa-edc4-596b-af7b-9f31f5169804.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voted 7-2 against rearming security guards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"hidden-print asset-breakout-container \">Opponents of rearming guards said the matter required more discussion; members disputed whether it was legal for guards to carry guns. Officials took steps to improve security last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/crime-and-courts\/security-guard-for-metrolink-shot-and-killed-at-delmar-station\/article_505aea0d-f117-5cf9-a55c-5628e4ca3519.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including increasing police presence on the trains<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"hidden-print asset-breakout-container \">GOP lawmakers have made similar efforts to allow the public to carry concealed weapons on public transit for years, to no avail.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row lee-text-row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8 fixed-col-left main-content\">\n<div class=\"lee-article-text\">\n<p>Democrats have mostly opposed the measures, but state Sen.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mo.gov\/mem05\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steven Roberts<\/a>, D-St. Louis, said Friday he would consider supporting the bill as written \u2014 if GOP proponents maintain limiting who could carry guns to concealed-carry permit holders&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Armed passengers?
