{"id":65033,"date":"2021-02-19T16:16:14","date_gmt":"2021-02-19T22:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=65033"},"modified":"2021-02-19T16:16:14","modified_gmt":"2021-02-19T22:16:14","slug":"65033","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=65033","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Improvise, Adapt, Overcome<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/02\/18\/some-texans-use-2021-ford-f-150-hybrids-to-power-homes-amid-winter-storm.html\">Some Texans use 2021 Ford F-150 hybrid pickup trucks to power homes amid winter storm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When Randy Jones of Katy, Texas, bought his new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/F\">Ford<\/a>\u00a0F-150 pickup truck a few weeks ago, he didn\u2019t think he\u2019d be using it to keep the lights on in his house during a historic winter storm that left millions without power.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 2021 hybrid\u2019s onboard generator \u201cgives you the ability to use your truck like a mobile generator\u201d that can produce up to 7.2 kW of power, according to Ford.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"BoxInline-container  \">\n<div id=\"BoxInline-ArticleBody-5\" class=\"BoxInline-container\" data-module=\"mps-slot\">Jones, 66, said in a phone interview with CNBC on Thursday that he bought the truck in part because of that feature, adding that he often loses power due to hurricanes and other storms. When he lost power Sunday night, he decided to get out a few extension cords and put the generator to the test.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWithout it I would have been in the dark and cold like everybody else in the neighborhood,\u201d the retired refinery worker said, adding that he helped neighbors charge their phones and laptops. \u201cQuite a few of the neighbors said, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m getting one,\u2019 like, \u2018I\u2019m trading my Dodge or GMC,\u2019 because, South Texas, with hurricanes and things like that, we\u2019re always having power outages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones said he used the truck\u2019s onboard generator to power appliances in his home for three days, until his power was restored Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s not alone. Jerry Hall, 73, bought his new F-150 at the end of January. It turned out to be perfect timing, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe truck saved the day,\u201d the Kerrville, Texas, resident said Thursday in a phone interview. Hall said his home lost power Sunday evening through early Thursday. \u201cIt would have been three miserable days without the truck.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"MidResponsive-midResponsiveContainer\">\n<div id=\"MidResponsive-1\" class=\"\" data-module=\"mps-slot\">Hall said he and his wife still spent those days without heat, but they were able to run extension cords from the truck into the house to power lights, the refrigerator, television and other luxuries.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt kept us connected with the outside world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hall said \u201cthe main reason\u201d he bought the truck was its onboard generator. He said the rough weather last spring led to some blackouts in his part of the state and he knew he wanted to get some kind of generator. It just made sense, he said, to get a new truck with a generator built in.<\/p>\n<p>Other truck owners have been posting similar stories in an online forum for F-150 owners. Photos from the forum spilled over onto Twitter, where Ford CEO Jim Farley took notice, tweeting, \u201cThe situation in the SW US is so difficult.
