It is targeting a phantasm. The president has yet to address fully how to combat the larger issue of illegally acquired firearms used to commit offenses.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the 2016 Survey of Prison Inmates, the Justice Department\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bjs.gov\/content\/pub\/pdf\/suficspi16.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.bjs.gov\/content\/pub\/pdf\/suficspi16.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1614697910693000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFLjlb4sb7ssnZZdCXn1shjP_iRjQ\">reported<\/a>\u00a0in 2019 that \u201camong prisoners who possessed a gun during their offense, 90% did not obtain it from a retail source.\u201d <strong>Read that again. Among those individuals arrested, convicted, and sentenced, 90% of the firearms used in gun-related crimes\u00a0did not\u00a0come from legal sources, which include gun shows.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Astoundingly, only 0.8% of prisoners who had a firearm during their offense legally \u201cobtained it at a gun show.\u201d So, less than 1% of all firearms used in gun-related offenses came from gun shows<\/strong>. This is fascinating, seeing that the current administration and congressional majority would have us believe the \u201cgun show loophole\u201d is one area where the plague of gun violence is spawning from and it is just \u201ccommon sense\u201d to address it. But yet again, the facts show this is an illusion.<\/p>\n<p>What is not an illusion is this: If the Biden administration successfully shoves firearm regulation through Congress or enables it through executive action, Biden will be solely responsible for criminalizing the estimated\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gunsandamerica.org\/story\/20\/09\/17\/how-many-gun-owners-united-states-explainer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/gunsandamerica.org\/story\/20\/09\/17\/how-many-gun-owners-united-states-explainer\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1614697910693000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFeWocUBK2iPpftnGapnOPDu7D3Ew\">72 million people who legally own firearms<\/a>, as if our prison and legal system weren\u2019t overburdened enough.
