Further, how many of these bogus stories have enjoyed the backing of supposed independent corroboration when, in fact, newsrooms most likely talked to the same person or people?\u201d<br \/>\nPresident Trump got a lot of flak for calling the media the \u201cenemy of the people.\u201d <strong>But it seems like they\u2019ve been doing a good job at proving Trump was right about them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/matt-margolis\/2021\/03\/15\/the-washington-posts-fake-trump-quote-scandal-is-a-lot-worse-than-you-think-n1432763\">The Washington Post&#8217;s Fake Trump Quote Scandal Is a Lot Worse Than You Think<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The media conspiracy against Trump became a lot more serious on Monday when the\u00a0<em>Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/matt-margolis\/2021\/03\/15\/recording-disproves-wapo-claim-trump-pressured-georgia-officials-to-find-the-fraud-n1432602\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retracted its January story claiming that President Donald Trump had pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to \u201cfind the fraud\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in the 2020 election and said that he\u2019d be a \u201cnational hero\u201d if he did.<\/p>\n<p>A recording of the call definitively proved that the quotes cited by the\u00a0<em>Washington Post<\/em>, and then parroted by other outlets, were never actually said by the president.<\/p>\n<p>But, as Becket Adams\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/audio-shows-the-media-got-the-trump-georgia-story-all-wrong\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explains<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, \u201cthe\u00a0<i>Washington Post\u2019s\u00a0<\/i>dud of a \u2018bombshell\u2019 isn\u2019t even the most scandalous thing about this episode in media malfeasance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The most scandalous thing, Adams, argues, is that several different newsrooms \u201cclaimed they independently \u2018confirmed\u2019 the original \u2018scoop\u2019 with anonymous sources of their own.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/01\/09\/georgia-trump-reportedly-pressured-elections-investigator-to-overturn-election.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NBC News<\/a>\u00a0reported it \u201cconfirmed\u00a0<i>The Post\u2019s<\/i>\u00a0characterization of the Dec. 23 call through a source familiar with the conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2021\/01\/09\/trump-phone-call-pressured-georgia-election-investigator\/6610212002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USA Today<\/a><\/i>\u00a0claimed a \u201cGeorgia official speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal matters confirmed the details of the call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/december-call-trump-urged-georgia-elections-investigator-find\/story?id=75152489\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ABC News<\/a>\u00a0reported: \u201cPresident Donald Trump phoned a chief investigator in Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger\u2019s office asking the official to \u2018find the fraud\u2019 and telling this person they would be a \u2018national hero\u2019 for it, an individual familiar with the matter confirmed to ABC News.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/trump-pressured-georgia-to-find-the-fraud-in-earlier-call\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PBS NewsHour<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/01\/09\/politics\/trump-phone-call-georgia-investigator-2020-election\/index.html?utm_term=link&amp;utm_content=2021-01-09T21%3A46%3A05&amp;utm_source=twCNN&amp;utm_medium=social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a>\u00a0likewise appeared to claim they independently \u201cconfirmed\u201d the story through their own anonymous sources.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0claimed its quotes were confirmed by an anonymous source, and at least five major news outlets claimed to have independently confirmed that Trump said things he never said. \u201cThe most likely scenario is ABC, the\u00a0<i>Washington Post,\u00a0<\/i>and others talked to the same person or group,\u201d theorizes Adams. \u201cIt\u2019s either that or a bunch of people managed somehow to be wrong about a very specific claim, which is highly unlikely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Unless, of course, none of these five outlets actually confirmed anything, but merely claimed so. This is possible, but considering the fact that the recording of the call was found in the trash folder of a Georgia state official\u2019s computer seems to suggest that one or more Georgia state officials conspired to come up with a damaging version of the phone call, leaked the phony details to the media, and then covered up evidence of the actual call.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of which scenario took place, the implications are bad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe uncomfortable questions we are left with now are: Whom were they all speaking to? How did this person or these persons get the details of Trump\u2019s private phone call wrong? Are there additional examples of the media reporting bad information provided by anonymous sources we don\u2019t know about, merely because there\u2019s no contradictory audio or video?\u201d writes Adams. \u201cJust how many anonymously sourced stories are fraudulent?
