Greg Abbott, a Republican, issued an executive order (<a href=\"https:\/\/open.texas.gov\/uploads\/files\/organization\/opentexas\/EO-GA-34-opening-Texas-response-to-COVID-disaster-IMAGE-03-02-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) that went into effect on March 10 to loosen COVID-19 restrictions. Although the government\u2019s statewide mask mandate was lifted, individual businesses were still able to \u201climit capacity\u201d or impose mask mandates at their own choosing.<\/p>\n<p>But in Austin and Travis County, residents 10 years or older still have to wear a mask outside their home after a district judge refused to grant Attorney General Ken Paxton a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/texas-judge-says-austin-can-continue-to-enforce-mask-mandate-for-at-least-another-2-weeks_3731872.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">restraining order<\/a>\u00a0that would have ended a mask mandate enforced by Travis County and Austin city officials. The trial is set to take place on March 26.<\/p>\n<p>Texas had been witnessing a downward trend in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations prior to Abbott\u2019s announcement ending the restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 is the disease caused by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/giving-the-right-name-to-the-virus-causing-a-worldwide-pandemic-2_3277200.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) posted on Twitter yesterday that Texas saw a seven-day average decrease in the daily number of new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.<\/p>\n<div class=\"twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered\"><iframe id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"\" title=\"Twitter Tweet\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?dnt=true&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-0&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1374811062097354759&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fyournews.com%2F2021%2F03%2F26%2F2072600%2Fno-surge-in-covid-two-weeks-after-mask-mandate-lifted%2F&amp;siteScreenName=YourNewsMedia&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=e1ffbdb%3A1614796141937&amp;width=550px\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-tweet-id=\"1374811062097354759\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the time the executive order was issued, March 2, new COVID-19 cases in the state stood at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/us\/texas-coronavirus-cases.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7,240 cases<\/a>, with a seven-day average of 7,259 cases. If restrictions are imposed at a county level, those restrictions may not include reducing capacity to less than 50% for any type of entity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott\u2019s mask mandate rollback had attracted criticism from high-profile figures, including California Gov.
