Iran\u2019s Top Nuclear Site Reportedly Hit By Cyber Attack, Regime Claims Electrical \u201cAccident\u201d Took Out Brand New Centrifuges<\/a><\/p>\n

A day after Iran launched advanced centrifuges at Natanz nuclear facility, the site had been struck by an electrical \u201caccident,\u201d Iranian state media says. The electrical grid at the nuclear site crashed a day after the new centrifuges\u00a0were plugged in, an Iranian spokesman\u00a0claimed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/span>On Saturday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani unveiled the centrifuges meant for producing enriched uranium, a key component of a nuclear bomb, amid televised fanfare marking the so-called \u201cnational nuclear day.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are indications of an Iranian cover up of the incident considering that regime officials and state-run media\u00a0did not reveal<\/a>\u00a0further details or the extent of the \u201caccident.\u201d<\/p>\n

Israeli media also contradicted the official Iranian account. \u201cThe incident at Natanz on Sunday morning was not an \u201caccident\u201d and the damage is much graver than what Iran is presenting to the public, the Jerusalem Post<\/a>\u00a0disclosed.<\/div>\n

The incident may have been caused by yet another cyber attack at\u00a0one of Iran\u2019s \u201cmost secure<\/a>\u201d nuclear sites site. \u201cBased on reports, it seems that the so-called accident was caused by a cyber attack,\u201d the newspaper\u00a0added<\/a>. Around 2010, the site was\u00a0hit<\/a>\u00a0by malware that destroyed centrifuges and dealt a major blow to Iran\u2019s nuclear ambitions.<\/p>\n

Tehran has often pinned the\u00a0blame<\/a>\u00a0on Israel and the United States for breakdowns and incidents at its nuclear sites. In July 2020, Natanz nuclear enrichment facility\u00a0suffered<\/a>\u00a0an explosion and fire, triggering further\u00a0allegations<\/a>\u00a0from Tehran.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Natanz nuclear site suffered a problem Sunday involving its electrical distribution grid just hours after starting up new advanced centrifuges that more quickly enrich uranium, state TV reported. It was the latest incident to strike one of Tehran\u2019s most secure sites amid negotiations over the tattered atomic accord with world powers.<\/p>\n

Power had been cut across the facility of above-ground workshops and underground enrichment halls, civilian nuclear program spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi told Iranian state television.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere the power has been cut off indeed, and we do not know the reason for the outage,\u201d he said. \u201cThe incident is under investigation and we will inform you about the reason as we find out.\u201d<\/p>\n

The word state television used in its reports attributed to Kamalvandi in Farsi also can be used for \u201caccident.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency, which monitors Iran\u2019s program, said it was \u201caware of the media reports,\u201d but declined to comment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The commissioning of the new and advanced centrifuges was a major nuclear breach as Iran began mediated talks earlier this weeks with the Biden administration in Vienna, Austria.<\/p>\n

The talks began after President Joe Biden made major concessions to the regime,\u00a0revoking<\/a>\u00a0the enforcement of the U.N. sanctions and international weapons embargo, reversing former President Donald Trump\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n

As the week-long talks wounded down in Vienna, the Biden White House reportedly offered to end all sanctions imposed under President Trump\u2019s watch on the Shia-Islamic regime. \u201cThe Biden administration has opened the door to lifting Trump-imposed sanctions against Iran that are \u201cinconsistent\u201d with the 2015 nuclear deal, and also those that prevent Iran from accessing broader economic benefits under the agreement, according to a senior State Department official.\u201d the\u00a0Washington Post<\/a>\u00a0reported on Friday.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: According to news reports, Iranian regime has changed the initial \u201celectrical accident\u201d narrative and is calling the incident an act of \u201cterrorism.\u201d Iran\u2019s \u201cnuclear chief, \u201cAli Akbar Salehi, said that the international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) needed to deal with what he called nuclear terrorism,\u201d the\u00a0Jerusalem Post<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n
