\u00a0Gov. Ricketts Declares Nebraska a \u2018Second Amendment Sanctuary State.\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n

Nebraska\u00a0Gov. Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation that designates his state as a \u201cSecond Amendment\u00a0Sanctuary State,\u201d reaffirming the state\u2019s support for gun rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cNebraska has always been a state that has supported our Second Amendment rights,\u201d Ricketts said,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to a video of the signing event. \u201cAs a symbol of that support, I am signing a proclamation declaring Nebraska a Second Amendment Sanctuary State, and with my signature, it will become official.\u201d<\/p>\n

A number of counties in the state have already declared themselves Second Amendment \u201csanctuaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

The move comes in light of recent federal gun-control proposals and orders following several mass shootings.<\/p>\n

Last week, President Joe Biden unveiled a series of executive orders including new designations on \u201cghost guns,\u201d \u201cred flag\u201d legislation, and stipulated that pistols modified with stabilizer braces would be subject to the National Firearms Act.<\/p>\n

U.S. House Democrats, meanwhile, passed two gun measures that would expand background checks, although numerous Republican senators have said they would use their power to block both measures.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe White House and U.S. Congress have announced their intention to pursue measures that would infringe on the right to keep and bear arms,\u201d\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to a tweet from Ricketts, a Republican. His designation \u201cwill stand up against federal overreach and attempts to regulate gun ownership and use in the Good Life,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, deputies in Cache County, Utah, said they won\u2019t enforce any federal policy that may infringe on residents\u2019 Second Amendment rights. Sheriff D. Chad Jensen said that \u201cunconstitutional gun control\u201d will not happen in the county on his watch.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always supported and wholeheartedly enforced all constitutionally sound laws that deter and penalize gun violence,\u201d Jensen wrote in the April 9 statement. \u201cIt is critical we continue to work to keep firearms out of the hands of those who would use them to commit acts of violence against our citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, White House officials have said that more gun-control measures are forthcoming.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president is not going to wait for Congress to act to take additional executive actions\u2014this is the beginning,\u201d White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters last week. \u201cHe will continue to have his team review, both from a policy and a legal standpoint, additional executive actions that are possible to take.\u201d<\/p>\n

Psaki said Biden will still attempt to push Congress to create \u201clong-term measures,\u201d without elaborating on what regulations he might seek.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
