Black Penn State professors reports of a \u2018noose\u2019 behind their house ends up being part of neighbor\u2019s swing set.<\/a><\/p>\n

Earlier this week, a pair of black Penn State University professors reported a \u201cnoose\u201d in a tree behind their house.<\/p>\n

As reported by the PSU student newspaper\u00a0Daily Collegian<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0the professors said the incident was \u201cdeeply distressing to them and their family.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Centre Daily Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0notes the profs believed the \u201cnoose\u201d was \u201cdeliberately placed [on the tree] to harass them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Responding to the profs\u2019 call about \u201cpossible harassment,\u201d Patton Township Police Department collected the \u201cnoose\u201d and began investigating around the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

PSU President Eric Barron sprung into action,\u00a0posting a statement<\/a>\u00a0\u201cexpressing concern\u201d about the incident and \u201coffering support.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[T]he incident underscores the importance of our anti-racism work as a University, and as a community of scholars,\u201d Barron wrote. \u201cIt also underscores the importance of our town-gown work to build a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all who live here. Groups like\u00a0Community & Campus in Unity that have formed the Centre Region Anti-bias Coalition are critical to helping create a climate of acceptance and support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alas, according to the professors\u2019 neighbor who was interviewed by police, the \u201cnoose\u201d actually was\u00a0part of a swing set.<\/em>\u00a0The neighbors\u2019 kid told police he merely had thrown the rope \u201cinto the woods.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Patton Police Chief Tyler Jolley concluded there was \u201cno malice\u201d involved. The department added \u201cno kind of crime [was] committed at all\u201d and that the rope just \u201chappened\u201d to fall on the tree.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, in a Wednesday press release, police asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident or \u201cany suspicious activity\u201d in the timeframe in question to contact them.<\/p>\n

Onward State<\/em><\/a>\u00a0reports the professors work in the PSU College of the Liberal Arts and College of Communications respectively.
