{"id":67519,"date":"2021-05-04T15:55:54","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T20:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=67519"},"modified":"2021-05-04T15:55:54","modified_gmt":"2021-05-04T20:55:54","slug":"67519","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=67519","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/tennessee\/second-amendment-sanctuary-bill-passes-tennessee-house-heads-to-lee\/article_3958f5e0-ac71-11eb-a08f-5705a0f65d93.html\">Second Amendment sanctuary bill passes Tennessee House, heads to Lee<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 The Tennessee House voted Monday evening to make the state a Second Amendment sanctuary.<\/p>\n<p>The House adopted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wapp.capitol.tn.gov\/apps\/BillInfo\/Default.aspx?BillNumber=SB1335\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Senate Bill 1335<\/strong><\/a>, which passed last week in the Senate. It \u201caffirms that any law, treaty, executive order, rule, or regulation of the United States government\u201d that violates the Second Amendment is unenforceable.<\/p>\n<p>That violation would have to be determined by either the Tennessee or U.S. Supreme Court. Any official that would then attempt to enforce the unconstitutional law would then be subject to ouster.<\/p>\n<p>The bill now will head to Gov. Bill Lee\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cContrary to the messaging that\u2019s out there, Democrats are not for taking your guns away from you,\u201d Rep. Antonio Parkinson, D-Memphis, said while supporting the bill. \u201cSo let\u2019s end that bad messaging that y\u2019all are putting out there about us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parkinson\u2019s lone complaint about the bill was it didn&#8217;t include an amendment, which was withdrawn, preventing gun buybacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s only law-abiding citizens who show up,\u201d Parkinson said. \u201cIt\u2019s exploitation of poor people.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"tncms-region-article_instory_middle\" class=\"tncms-region hidden-print\"><\/div>\n<p>Rep. Bo Mitchell, D-Nashville, said he was hoping the legislation would not affect any federal ban on bump stocks.<\/p>\n<p>Bill sponsor Rep. Scotty Campbell, R-Mountain City, said what would be affected by the bill could be determined only by either supreme court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know what I would like to see,&#8221; Campbell told Mitchell. &#8220;That would be much different than what you would see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell said he would like to see bump stocks banned,\u00a0especially after the Waffle House shooting in Antioch in 2018 that killed four people and injured four others, and wouldn\u2019t want this bill to stand in the way of enforcing that ban. Mitchell also said he felt the court would take at least three years to make a ruling on something like a new law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want to bury several more people because of bump stocks,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cI hope every law enforcement agency in this state does their job and enforces that ban.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Senate discussion of the bill centered around\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/tennessee\/measure-making-tennessee-a-second-amendment-sanctuary-passes-senate\/article_0ccf3a58-a6e9-11eb-9b97-b3873eacfb79.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>whether the bill was nullification<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0of federal law and whether that was possible.
