OKC Dispensary Owner Shoots Armed Robbery Suspect<\/a><\/p>\n

OKLAHOMA CITY – A metro dispensary owner fought back Tuesday in an attempted armed robbery, police said.
\nAccording to Oklahoma City police, a robbery suspect was armed with knives, started making demands and smashing cases.<\/p>\n

At last check, the man was hospitalized at OU Health in critical condition. Police and eyewitnesses said this crime is becoming all too common.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have a product that a lot of people want,\u201d said Al Jenkins who lives nearby.\u00a0\u201cThey’re a cash only businesses and they have a few things that criminals want. Something that’s untraceable like marijuana and then cash,\u201d said Oklahoma City Police Lieutenant Isaac Goodman.<\/p>\n

Jenkins lives near the dispensary at Northwest 23rd and Villa. After hearing a commotion, he went to investigate.\u00a0\u201cI just couldn\u2019t understand why an alarm on the building would go on in the day,\u201d said Jenkins.<\/p>\n

He said police responded immediately.\u00a0\u201cI heard a screech, a tire screech. I didn’t know what it was until I came around the corner and it was police officers showing up on the scene,\u201d said Jenkins.<\/p>\n

According to police, the armed suspect stormed in and began making demands.\u201cAn armed subject came inside and started breaking display cases. He was armed with two knives threatening the owners inside the business,\u201d said Goodman.\u00a0After refusing to leave, police said the business owner took action.\u00a0\u201cThe owner pulled a handgun and shot the suspect in defense of himself,\u201d said Goodman.<\/p>\n

Theta Hale works at a nearby dispensary and said it’s getting dangerous.\u00a0\u201cIt is concerning. It makes you think if this is what you want to do,\u201d said Hale.<\/p>\n

Police said criminals should think twice\u00a0\u201cThe majority of dispensaries in our city limits are staffed by folks that are armed because they know it’s a risky business and they also have very elaborate security systems,\u201d said Goodman.\u00a0No one else was injured in the shooting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
