Pop Star Grimes Brings Sword \u2018Crafted from a Colt AR-15\u2032 to Met Gala<\/a><\/p>\n

Grimes, the experimental musical artist and mother to Elon Musk\u2019s youngest child, brought a sword \u201ccrafted from a Colt AR-15\u201d to the Met Gala on September 13, 2021, as a fashion accessory.<\/p>\n

USA Today<\/em>\u00a0explained<\/a>\u00a0that Grimes, n\u00e9e\u00a0Claire Elise Boucher, carried \u201ca sword accessory made of melted guns.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer-producer said, \u201cIt\u2019s from these people who are getting people\u2019s [guns] who don\u2019t want to have their automatic rifles anymore, and are melting them down and making them perfect replicas of medieval swords, which I think is just so cool\u2014I think it\u2019s a beautiful thing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Photos of Grimes\u2019 outfit show an inscription on the blade of the sword, which reads: \u201cCrafted from a Colt-AR-15A3.\u201d<\/p>\n

The blade also bears the logo of\u00a0MSCHF<\/a>, an art collective, and its Guns2Swords project. The Guns2Swords homepage\u00a0explains<\/a>, \u201cWe\u2019re destroying your guns and forging them into swords.\u201d<\/p>\n

The site instructs potential customers to either send the artists a description of a gun that they would like to be reshaped \u2014 or pay $5,000 for a sword that the group has already made from a gun.<\/p>\n

The Met Gala is an annual gathering known for its\u00a0over-the-top fashion<\/a>\u00a0from Hollywood celebrities and other elites. The 2021 event featured similarly clownish\u00a0political statements<\/a>, including Rep.\u00a0Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a>\u00a0(D-NY) in a Chick-fil-A-evoking \u201cTax the Rich\u201d dress and soccer activist\u00a0Megan Rapinoe<\/a>\u00a0flaunting a clutch reading \u201cIn Gay We Trust.\u201d<\/p>\n
