{"id":72139,"date":"2021-09-16T00:03:16","date_gmt":"2021-09-16T05:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=72139"},"modified":"2021-09-16T00:03:16","modified_gmt":"2021-09-16T05:03:16","slug":"72139","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=72139","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/anti-crt-parents-sweep-connecticut-school-board-primary-besting-gop-incumbents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anti-CRT Parents Sweep Connecticut School Board Primary, Besting GOP Incumbents<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Five parents hell-bent on keeping critical race theory (CRT) out of the Guilford, Conn. school district swept the Republican school board primary Tuesday night, advancing to the general election in November.<\/p>\n<p>Fending off a challenge from three old-guard Republican incumbents \u2014 who the anti-CRT parents accuse of rubber-stamping the racialized curriculum favored by the board\u2019s progressives and the district superintendent \u2014 the cabal of five dominated the competition Tuesday, walking away with bids for the November ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Political novices Timothy Chamberlain, Nick Cusano, Aly Passerelli, Bill Maisano, and Danielle Scarpellino outperformed their intra-party rivals by a three to one margin, according to figures provided to <span class=\"small_caps\">National Review<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Nearly half of all registered Republicans in Guilford voted in Tuesday\u2019s election, according to Scarpellino.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defeat was crushing and sent a very loud message that our town will not be dominated by the woke cancel culture and our kids will be shielded from any and all political indoctrination,\u201d Scarpellino told\u00a0<span class=\"small_caps\">National Review<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The parent activists\u2019 landslide victory suggests that they now have a mandate from Guilford\u2019s Republican constituents, as it was not the first time they defeated the establishment GOP trio.<\/p>\n<p>On July 22, the company of five earned the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/parent-crt-resistance-fighters-oust-incumbents-for-guilford-school-board\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">endorsement<\/a>\u00a0of the town\u2019s GOP caucus, but the incumbents, who the newcomers have branded \u201cRepublicans in Name Only,\u201d wouldn\u2019t go quietly, immediately announcing they would primary the interlopers on September 14.<\/p>\n<div id=\"inline-newsletter-nloptin-6142cb7d21e9b\" class=\"inline-newsletter-subscribe\">\n<form class=\"form-newsletter\" data-component=\"newsletter\" data-success=\"Thank you for subscribing!\" data-error=\"There was a problem signing you up, please try again.\">\n<div class=\"inline-newsletter-subscribe__cta\">\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s election was a referendum on Republicans who prioritized bipartisanship over defending Guilford\u2019s children from racial indoctrination that teaches a one-sided view of American history, according to the newly elected parents.<\/p>\n<p>However, the three, who call themselves \u201cThe Good Republicans\u201d according to screenshots of yard signs Scarpellino provided, may have one more trick up their sleeves, which is to run as Independents in the general election.<\/p>\n<p>The anti-CRT candidates say they rode to victory on a wave of dormant energy supplied by Guilford parents who are demanding a balanced, transparent, and apolitical\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/from-grad-school-to-kindergarten-how-critical-race-theory-is-remaking-a-connecticut-school-district\/?itm_campaign=headline-testing-from-grad-school-to-kindergarten-how-critical-race-theory-is-remaking-a-connecticut-school-district&amp;itm_medium=headline&amp;itm_source=nationalreview&amp;itm_content=How%20Critical%20Race%20Theory%20Is%20Remaking%20a%20Connecticut%20School%20District&amp;itm_term=How%20Critical%20Race%20Theory%20Is%20Remaking%20a%20Connecticut%20School%20District\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">curriculum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the victory was by no means guaranteed; the candidates benefitted from a substantial organizing effort.<\/p>\n<p>In August, the parents hired a campaign manager, Mary Beeman, who Scarpellino says was pivotal to their success. Beeman previously served on the local school board and told Scarpellino she felt silenced by the panel\u2019s liberal representatives. She led the campaign on a volunteer basis, taking a grassroots mobilization approach. Hundreds of other people also helped with the campaign in some form, Scarpellino says.<\/p>\n<p>The team utilized door to door interaction, personal letters from students and veterans, video interviews with the slate of five, yard signs, automated texts and calls, palm cards, flyers, and more to get out the vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith so much to learn, there\u2019s no time for political indoctrination in the classroom. We welcome all instruction that offers an honest, balanced view of our history and society; we reject attempts to use our schools to divide our children by race and political views,\u201d Beeman said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of their defeat, the incumbent Republicans, who also sit on the Republican town council, announced that they would be canceling the council\u2019s monthly \u201cSteak-Out,\u201d a fundraising event held annually for the GOP\u2019s school board candidates.
