Authority to &#8216;Indefinitely&#8217; Detain &#8216;Cases or Suspected Cases of Contagious Disease&#8217;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s right \u2014 what could go possibly wrong with legislation that would, if passed into law, grant the far-left governor of New York \u2014 or\u00a0<em>any government official or entity\u00a0<\/em>\u2014 the unilateral authority to detain\u00a0<em>anyone<\/em>\u00a0\u201cindefinitely\u201d even\u00a0<em>suspected<\/em>\u00a0of posing \u201ca significant threat to public health\u201d? No way could<em>\u00a0that<\/em>\u00a0be abused.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It hasn&#39;t gotten nearly enough attention that New York is considering a bill that would literally give the state the authority to detain people it considers &quot;potentially dangerous to the public health&quot;<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UxQUrRRsR5\">https:\/\/t.co\/UxQUrRRsR5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Greg Price (@greg_price11) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/greg_price11\/status\/1473048961166544897?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 20, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>You can read the bill on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2021\/a416\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York State Senate website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"my-4\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-300x250_4\" class=\"gpt-ad ad-250 text-center\" data-google-query-id=\"CL7wpLT29PQCFQUMPwodYtQIgw\">\n<p>Here\u2019s a relevant section (emphasis, mine):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Upon determining by clear and convincing evidence that the health of others is or\u00a0<em><strong>may be<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0endangered by a case, contact or carrier, or\u00a0<em><strong>suspected case,<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0contact or carrier of a contagious disease that, in the opinion of the governor, after consultation with the commissioner,\u00a0<em><strong>may pose<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0an imminent and significant threat to the public health resulting in severe morbidity or high mortality, the governor of his or her delegee including, but not limited to the commissioner or heads of local health departments, may order<em><strong>\u00a0the removal and\/or detention<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0of such\u00a0<em><strong>a person or of a group<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0of such persons by issuing\u00a0<em><strong>a single order<\/strong><\/em>, identifying such persons either by name or by a\u00a0<em><strong>reasonably specific description<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0of the individuals or group being detained. Such person or group of persons shall be detained by\u00a0<em><strong>a medical facility or other appropriate facility or premises designated by the governor or his delegee<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thenationalpulse.com\/news\/new-york-legislation-provides-for-indefinite-detention-of-unvaccinated-at-governors-whim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0The National Pulse on Monday:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The bill would \u201crequire an individual who has been exposed to or infected by a contagious disease to\u00a0<strong>complete an appropriate, prescribed course of treatment, preventive medication or vaccination<\/strong>,\u201d essentially giving the government the right to detain anyone they want and forcibly vaccinate them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What\u2019s next, COVID concentration camps? COVID Gestapo? Hyperbolic language? Sure, permanent detention facilities and those charged with dumping people in them at the whim of the government would never be labeled as such. To paraphrase Hillary,\u00a0<em>what difference does it make<\/em>\u00a0what we call them?<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, tell me far-left New York Gov.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/tladuke\/2021\/11\/28\/variant-mania-new-york-governor-issues-mandates-just-like-her-predecessor-cuomo-n482884\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kathy Hochul<\/a>\u00a0\u201cmight not\u201d be tempted to use such power out of spite to punish political enemies, and I\u2019ll tell you that you need to start paying a bit more attention to\u00a0<em>her<\/em>\u00a0goings-on. Or those of Oregon Gov.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/brandon_morse\/2020\/12\/29\/oregon-governor-sends-cps-to-salon-owners-home-after-she-resisted-lockdown-order-n301169\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kate Brown<\/a>, Michigan Gov.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/tladuke\/2021\/08\/04\/michigan-house-member-rips-doj-for-dropping-whitmer-nursing-home-investigation-n420943\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gretchen Whitmer<\/a>, or any other Democrat on a power trip. (Joe Biden last seen furiously nodding in approval.)<\/p>\n<p>While the proposal suggests that no individual or group can be held for more than 60 days, the language allows for court orders to waive the maximum detention time. After 60 days, the court is allowed an additional 90 days to consider detention, a cycle that can last indefinitely per the opinion of the department.<\/p>\n<p>The New York General Assembly will reportedly vote on the bill in the legislative session beginning January 5, 2022, according to The National Pulse.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, COVID-19 isn\u2019t specifically mentioned, suggesting\u00a0<em>anyone<\/em>\u00a0could be detained and held in isolation until deemed to be non-contagious from \u201canything.\u201d HIV\/AIDS? Flu season? The list could go on.<\/p>\n<p>The only thing<em>\u00a0contagious<\/em> here is the left\u2019s hellbent desire to control all aspects of our lives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bill Would Give NY Gov.
