{"id":78754,"date":"2022-03-15T14:41:08","date_gmt":"2022-03-15T19:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=78754"},"modified":"2022-03-15T14:41:08","modified_gmt":"2022-03-15T19:41:08","slug":"78754","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=78754","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wonder why it is, you almost <em>never<\/em> find a gun control advocate who immigrated here from a nation controlled by a tyrannical goobermint?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/arizona-campus-carry-advocate-motivated-by-childhood-in-communist-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona campus carry advocate motivated by childhood in Communist country<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Can you imagine if Cambodia had the Second Amendment?\u2019<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Legislation currently pending in Arizona would allow faculty members and students to \u201ccarry or possess\u201d firearms while on campus, as long as they have their gun permits.<\/p>\n<p>Young Americans for Liberty is supportive of the legislation because the libertarian organization believes it will help reduce crime on campus.<\/p>\n<p>But the legislator behind the bill has a bigger concern too \u2013 preventing tyranny, like what he saw as a child during the Fall of Saigon during the Vietnam War.<\/p>\n<p>The chief sponsor of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/AZ\/bill\/HB2447\/2022\" rel=\"noopener\">House Bill 2447<\/a>, Quang Nguyen, said he is motivated by his childhood in Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI came from a Communist country where people were actually killed at will,\u201d he said. \u201cCan you imagine if Cambodia had the Second Amendment? We wouldn\u2019t have two million people killed by Pol Pot,\u201d he said at the February 9 hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican legislator is also a concealed carry instructor and the president of the Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Association.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He presented evidence his staff had compiled that showed crime went down at several Texas colleges examined after the Lone Star State\u2019s passage of campus carry.<\/p>\n<p>He did not respond to a media inquiry sent in the past several weeks from\u00a0<em>The College Fix<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Young Americans for Liberty activists are making the same argument in support of the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2019 alone, there were 23 instances of rape on the University of Arizona\u2019s main campus,\u201d Arizona state chair Timothy Tizon told the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/videoplayer\/?eventID=2022021041\" rel=\"noopener\">Judiciary Committee<\/a>. \u201cIf campus carry can prevent one of these cases, it will be worth it. Students have the right to protect themselves off-campus, and that right should be protected, not skirted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Representative Shawna Bolick sponsored the legislation with Nguyen. She\u2019s a member of YAL\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/yaliberty.org\/hazlitt\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Hazlitt Coalition<\/a>\u00a0of libertarian state legislators.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>We have a lot of booze on campus, ASU police chief says in opposition to bill<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Arizona State University\u2019s police chief, Michael Thompson, testified against the legislation, citing the prevalence of alcohol on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUniversity students make bad decisions all the time,\u201d Thompson said. \u201cHourly, sometimes, even.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re dealing with students who don\u2019t have the ability, for the most part, to make life decisions, regarding carrying a firearm on campus,\u201d Chief Thompson said. \u201cWe have alcohol issues, we have mental health issues, we don\u2019t have supervision\u2026 there are a lot of variables that are added into the mix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe notion that [concealed carry] training is going to prevent a massive shooting is a fantasy,\u201d Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Fix<\/em>\u00a0emailed Chief Thompson and ASU spokesperson Jerry Gonzalez on March 10 to ask for further information on his claims but did not receive a response.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Fix<\/em>\u00a0asked for any research he could share that shows an increase in shootings or other violence tied to campus carry, what studies he reviewed before coming to his conclusion and if he also opposed university employees being allowed to carry on campus.<\/p>\n<p>ASU President Michael Crow\u2019s office has not returned a voicemail left on February 27 that asked for his position on the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Nguyen said that Thompson\u2019s comments on alcohol made him question if he\u2019d send his own kids there. \u201cYou kind of scare me when you talk about kids drinking and doing drugs,\u201d Nguyen said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just made a case for me to not send my kids to ASU,\u201d Nguyen said. \u201cOr even you\u2019re making the case for me that if I send my 21-year-old daughter to ASU she should be armed to protect herself.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wonder why it is, you almost never find a gun control advocate who immigrated here from a nation controlled by a tyrannical goobermint?
