(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wdhn.com\/news\/crime\/suspected-burglar-shot-by-geneva-co-homeowner-sheriff-says\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.wdhn.com\/news\/crime\/suspected-burglar-shot-by-geneva-co-homeowner-sheriff-says\/\">WDHN<\/a>) \u2014 Early Friday morning, a Wiregrass homeowner shot an intruder twice with a handgun \u2014 after telling him to leave and then a struggle between the two.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say the suspect was in the process of burglarizing the rural residence when the homeowner awakened to a sound from the back door.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency responders arrived at a trailer off Audy Lane in eastern Geneva County\u2019s Fadette community, just after 3 a.m. this morning.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">The suspect, whose name has not been released, had surgery at Southeast Health for the gunshots in his leg and abdomen. He is now reportedly in stable condition.<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms says he and Geneva\/Dale District Attorney Kirke Adams will gather all the evidence before charging the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe worked the scene at the time, we\u2019ve spoke to several witnesses there and several other locations and we\u2019ve referred to the District attorney,\u201d Sheriff Helms. \u201cAnd determine what the charges will be. But at this time we don\u2019t see any charges against the homeowner.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff Helms says once the suspect is released from the hospital he will be arrested and charged with the \u201cHome invasion\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Suspected burglar shot by Geneva Co. homeowner FADETTE, Ala.
